Reluctantly, I started this novel (suggested by the librarian). However, I could NOT put it down for one second. In the middle of the night I was reading by the dim light of the night light. Captured by diction and syntax, I continued on- even though some parts embarrassed me and made me feel a little guilty for reading...Nevertheless, it is realistic and everyone needs to read this book- teens and parents.

Do Not dismiss this book because it is "old." This enthralling book captures the realities of the 21st century in the actions during the 1600's. The dynamic, symbolic characters become a part of you and you are a part of them. Symbolically, one of the greatest novels ever written. Nathaniel Hawthorne takes the reader on a dig- inching us along clue by clue, word by word...how fantastic to see foreshadowing, symbolism, and character development displayed so artistically.

An absolute fantastic and intriguing read...one can read the novella in one sitting. You relate with the characters and their struggles; you are brought into their world...of surprises, heartache, and bitterness... Don't miss out on this romantic, yet realistic tale.
