Every year, the booksellers at Powell’s submit their Top Fives: their five favorite books that were released in 2023. Cutie Pies 40 Sweet Savory & Adorable Recipes

This book has been a revelation. I started making pies only a few months ago but was already itching to move beyond the standard pie pan, to boldly go where this particular new baker hadn't gone before. I looked at several other similar books without much success, but this one presents pie options -- "cutie pies, petit-5s, piejars, flipsides, piepops and ful-sized pies -- "for each of the recipes included. And the recipes couldn't be easier to follow! The writing is friendly, the photos are mouth-watering... This book quite frankly will make you want to bake lots and lots of pies in many shapes and sizes.

Aint Myth Behaving

What a fun read! I don't read romance novels. No. I find them melodramatic, overwrought and sometimes just plain embarrassing. But McAllister expertly mates male characters from mythology (Celtic and Norse) with sassy, independent, 21st-century women in a pair of tales that are quirky, steamy, and just plain funny. I look forward to reading more of McAllister's wacky tales!
