Conjurers Bird
by
Davies, Martin
mgewrites
, December 21, 2007
The Conjurerâs Bird by Martin Davies is a fascinating story of taxidermist John Fitzpatrickâs search for the stuffed remains of the mysterious ulieta Bird. In the story there is a mystery surrounding not only the remains of the stuffed bird, but of some priceless paintings that were thought to be in its display box. Intercut with Fitzpatrickâs story of the search, is the story of Joseph Banksâ journey with Captain Cook; his engagement and then sudden cancellation of his engagement to be married; and his affair with a mysterious woman with startling green eyes and the birth of their daughter. Banks was an actual character in history and he reigned as president of the Royal Society for 42 years. This story is based on some true facts given in the back of the book. Martin has told a highly entertaining and intriguing tale following two time lines that are carefully woven together making this book unique among many you will read.

Out of Order
by
Charles Benoit
mgewrites
, December 21, 2007
Reminiscent of An Accidental Tourist, author Charles Benoit spins a tale of orderly real estate agent Jason Talley's adventures as he seeks to return a red sari to the mother of his murdered friend. In India, he meets a gorgeous young woman who loves riding on trains and takes him on a railway adventure to end all adventures. They are shot at, accosted and Jason's arm is slashed by a thug. The backpack containing the sari seems to be desired by thugs and thieves alike. There is something mysterious about that red sari. Does it contain a missing computer program worked into the gold threads? The mystery is not solved until the last page of the last chapter. This book is a great and quick read.
