Every year, the booksellers at Powell’s submit their Top Fives: their five favorite books that were released in 2023. It’s a list that, when put together, shows just how varied and interesting the book tastes of Powell’s booksellers are. In my opinion when you've finished your first read of the year and you KNOW that it will make your best reads list at the end of the year, you've read a true winner. This book will draw you in from the first page. The characters will become like your best friends. You will guess and guess who Neptune really is. But overall when you finish this book you will want to recommend it to everyone you know. At least that's what my experience with this book was. I could gush endlessly about this book, but the fact of the matter is that you really just need to read it.

In the third installment of the Women's Murder Club, Lieutenant Lindsay Boxer is faced with terrorists on her streets. In order to bring peace to the city, innocent lives will be lost, including one of the Club. This book is by far the best in the series. It is full of twists and turns, it is heartwrenching in places. You see a more personal side of all the main characters. Highly recommended!!

Pact a Love Story
by
Jodi Picoult

, March 22, 2008
After hearing numerous good things about Jodi Picoult, I decided to try one of her books. "The Pact" had a book description that immediately drew me in. I cannot describe how wonderful this book truly was. Throughout the book, Picoult flashes back between the childhoods of the two main characters, Chris and Emily, and the present - in which Emily is found dead and Chris is claiming that they had a suicide pact. I felt that the writing in this book was amazing; it drew me in from the beginning and I could hardly get through it fast enough to find out what really happened that night out by the carousel. I found myself feeling a range of emotions, shock, anger, and sympathy, just to name a few. I felt myself remembering many wonderful memories from my teenage years when I first found love. Very few books can illicit such strong feelings out of me as this one did. I highly recommend this book to anyone who has an appreciation for good, solid writing.
