Falling for Her Convenient Groom

Returning to Lake Como for Carla and Franco's story was a lot of fun. Both are trying to prove their mettle in running their respective family (feuding) businesses. Carla's father's health isn't the best, but he has trouble believing in single Carla as a replacement for himself at the helm. At his behest, she concocts a plan to marry for the business, to be able to put into motion all of her own ideas to make is successful. Enter spiceman Franco Marchello and a marriage contract and sparks fly as they begin their whirlwind wedding and life 'together'. Both have their own reasons for showing their elders their business acumen, but the ease in which they work together makes the book really sail along as I rooted for everything to work itself out. A very good romance!

Late Lamented Molly Marx

Molly Marx is dead, and I think she knows it, but that doesn't stop her from examining her life from the Duration. Part mystery, part self-discovery, I really liked getting to know Molly posthumously.

The Geek Girl's Guide to Cheerleading
by

Bethany and her friend Moni usually navigate the halls and gauntlet of popular kids and cheerleaders holding their breath. When Moni's "geek" friend Brian makes is so apparent that anything in a cheerleading uniform is worth watching, the two girls decide to try out for the squad. Bethany never dreams they will actually make it, but of course, they do. From Coach Shelia's surprise help and learning how the other half lives, this story deftly shows both sides of the high school battle lines. Will the handsome, star basketball player really fall for Bethany?

When high schooler Savannah's older sister Jane has a makeover and catches the eye of Savannah's senior boyfriend Hunter, the sibling wars begin. Enter Chrystanthemum Everstar, a fairy godmother who has a lot to prove after exiting her early training as only "fair". Chrissy appears to Savannah, finally convinces her she really has three wishes and proceeds to mangle them by not really listening to her. All Savannah really wants is a prince to take her to Prom. First, our fair godmother sends Savannah back to the Middle Ages, as the real, lives in rags, there's a pot of porridge over the fire for days because there is no refrigeration, Cinderella. Repeated calls to Chrissy by Savannah are finally heeded, but then she misinterprets Savannah yet again and Savannah is back in the Middle Ages as Snow White. Lucky for her, the dwarves just think she's insane and head off to tell the prince about her affliction. Once she's home again, Savannah discovers news of a missing classmate, Tristan. Turns out Chrissy has been at work again, and sent him to the Middle Ages on a quest, never to return unless he becomes the prince Savannah needs. Savannah finds a loophole in her fairy contract and Chrissy must send her back to help oversee Tristan's development.

Godmother The Secret Cinderella Story
by
Carolyn Turgeon

, June 12, 2009
What if the version of Cinderella that has been passed down through the years wasn't quite right? Perhaps the fairy godmother was constantly tested by her strong feelings for all things human. Lil is an old woman now, ekeing out a small life for herself in Manhattan, working at a bookstore, and always thinking of the past--her sister and best friends. At night, she goes home alone to her apartment, sinks into a hot bath and lets her wings unfurl. Lil, you see, is that fairy who was destined to get Cinderella and the prince together, but something went terribly wrong. Now, with sadness and old age surrounding her, Lil begins to have a sense of urgency about her purpose among all these humans. Enter the luminous Veronica, the girl Lil believes will fulfill her destiny. The ball is a charity gala, the prince is Lil's boss, George, and Veronica will do nicely as the Cinderella stand-in.
