Alexander and Tristan, you are so blessed to have a dad who loves you so much that he wrote a book just for you. I am glad your dad is sharing this story with the public also. I have enjoyed this work of fantasy. One of the things that have made this book so special to me is the sense of family. How much they loved each other and would die if they had too, to protect each other. From the beginning to the end this book holds your attention. I can see a parent reading this book out loud to their kids. Texting or playing games will stop as they listen to the words of this story. This book is filled with adventure and suspense. You will find golden dragons fighting to survive in a world filled with humans. Humans who want to kill them for what they have. While there is violence in this book it is nothing to what most games portray.

Lodestone Book Two: The World of Ice and Stars
by
Mark Whiteway
Whispering Winds Book Reviews
, March 04, 2012
I was introduced to the “Lodestone,” series by receiving book three first. Then I read the first one and it tells the readers how the characters came to be. So I had the beginning and the possible ending. It was when I read the second book it really all came together for me. I have been told that writing a review should be like talking to a friend. This science fiction series has really been interesting to read. The characters seem to jump out at you. The plot is well constructed and you find yourself waiting to see how it plays out. You won’t want to put the book down until you are finished. I know a lot of people say that. But it is really true. One thing that I have said before is that, each book has your imagination working to visualize each character. Plus you will travel to worlds that you could never imagine. Just thinking of the colors that the author has described was for me almost poetic. I wonder if Mr. Whiteway writes poetry. While I have shared my perception of this book, you have to remember that there is adventure, fighting and the will to live. The characters are strong and fighting to save their world as they know it. Thank you Mr. Whiteway, for another fascinating book! I hope there will be more to come in this series. I have often wondered where ideas for books come from when an author begins to pen their book. Does it start from just one word? Or is it an idea that has been floating around in their mind for a long time, or just a few days. As each chapter ends I can’t help but think, is this author a scientist? On the back of the book you will read the author built his story around the concept of negative matter-an extension of Einstein’s Theory of General Relativity. Of course we all know what that is? Honestly, this is a good book! The story plays out so that even people like me can understand what is going on. The characters are fascinating and your imagination gets booted into high gear. I think both adults and teenagers will enjoy this book

Lifting the Wheel of Karma
by
Paul H. Magid
Whispering Winds Book Reviews
, December 08, 2011
Thursday, December 8, 2011 Lifting the Wheel of Karma I found this book to be compassionate and insightful. At times I had to stop and read a paragraph over again so I could make sure I understood the meaning. As a Christian I found a deeper understanding of ways to accept, forgive and even love each other more. The characters are well developed and interesting. Joseph is the main character. Every since he was a five year old child he started having violent nightmares and would scream about the demons who would attack him. As he got older the nightmares changed to where he was fighting with warriors. Joseph's only coping mechanism was martial arts. He was so good no one in his age devision would fight him as they knew they would lose. They promoted Joseph to fighting with adults when he was fifteen. He had never lost a fight until one night. It is from here you will find the heart of this story. Joseph feels he can only find the answers he needs by going to the remote Himalayas of India. There he finds an old wise man who helps him to find the answers to all of his questions and to find his Dharma. The ending made me cry and I did not want the book to end. This is an excellent read for anyone or any religion. You don't have to agree with all that is wrote but the message of love is something we should all pay more attention too. I cried at the ending. It was hard for me to believe this was a first time author.

Risk It All
by
Stan Stamper
Whispering Winds Book Reviews
, July 23, 2011
Risk It All Carissa Johnson, graduated top of her class at Harvard. She has a double master’s degree in business finance and international business. She is not only smart but beautiful as well. She was approached by the CIA’s Mideast Bureau Chief, Quincy Carter, to work for them. Saying no was not an option for her. She came from a family where duty to your country is an honor. At only 28 she had accomplished what no other CIA agent working in the Middle East had been able to do penetrate the largest Hamas cell on the Arabian Peninsula, so the agency could initiate the important process of “following the money trail” that would take them to the top al Qaida operatives. When Carissa is called home because of the death of her grandmother Anna, her world will change in ways she never expected. This book is full of all the things that make a great book suspense, adventure, excitement and love. There is a little bit of something for all readers. This is an excellent read and I give it five star rating.

Faded Lives
by
Edward T. Vaughan
Whispering Winds Book Reviews
, May 31, 2011
What I first loved about this book was the cover. Then when I read the book and discovered the importance of the picture, no other picture could have given the story justice. Mark Stephens has felt guilty every since he was not able to make it in time to see his grandpa before he died. So when time passed he jumped at the chance to help his grandma when she called. It was one week he would never forget. While he feasted on all the good country food his grandmother made; he also learned about his grandma and the history of her family. Every day as he helped his grandma get things in order, she would share with him what had gone on in her family growing up. It is those stories that make this book good. It is more than just an interesting read, as you will find you can’t wait until grandma Emily talks again. It is the ending that I found so beautiful and peaceful. I can’t tell you why, but that is my perception. I found it hard to believe this is a first time author

Caroline Hill has spent the last nine years of her life in a mental hospital. When she was a teenager she had a baby, and her daughter was literally taken from her arms and put up for adoption. Caroline was begging for her baby and slowly sank into a world that would take her nine years to climb out of. As Caroline enters into a new society she begins to wonder if she can make it. But the words of her doctors at the hospital keep coming back to her. To takes things one step at a time. She has a job and her very own room in a boarding house. What she is about to encounter is something no one could of dreamed of. This book is intricately plotted and will surprise even the most devoted mystery reader. I challenge any reader to stop on page 190 of this 255 page book, to tell me who is the real serial murderer. The answer will surely blow you away. It did me.

Hambledown Dream

, May 03, 2011
As a reviewer, if I say I will review a book then I do so no matter what. I started reading this book and thought to myself what a mistake I have made. The language is vulgar and some sexual escapade's . The main character is a young man named Andy DeVrie who is a drug dealer and courier. One night he over dose’s on drugs. He had flat line in the hospital, and after using the paddles four times the doctors were able to bring him back to life. Then a strange thing begins to happen. Andy begins to change the way he lives. Even his eye color changes from brown to green. He has these dreams of a woman and the life he had with her. He feels another presence within himself and the woman in his dreams calls him Denny. He stopped selling and doing drugs. He paid a high price for doing so. He was beat within an inch of his life. The one thing that Andy loved more than anything was playing his guitar. He was a student at a prestigious Conservatory for classical guitar, and if not for one teacher he would have been kicked out. Andy played technically correct, but it is with the help of Denny he learns to feel the music. To become one with his guitar and let the music take him to different places. This book is a lovely love story between a man and a woman. But it is also about the magic of music. I can honestly say I felt the music and enjoyed this book. I played violin for years, so it was easy for me to envision what Andy/Denny felt as he played. To lose yourself and everything around you until the music fades away.

Sacred Secrets, a Jacody Ives Mystery
by
MS Linda S. Prather

This is one of the most fascinating books I have ever had the pleasure of reading. After reading the author’s first book “The Gifts, A Jacody Ives Mystery,” I did not feel like the next book could top it. But what I found was Ms. Prather is one of the most gifted writers of our times. In the second installment of the “Jacody Ives Mystery,” the author takes us deeper into the depths of Jacody and Gavin. One person, with two different personalities. I am so glad that the author has included some of the characters from the first book that I liked. The new ones are just as engaging. The elements of the supernatural, add to the suspense of this story. I would also like to commend Charles W. Prather, Jr. for the poetry he has written in this book. He shows great promise as well. rated pg for violence

The Gifts (Jacody Ives Mystery)

If you love a good mystery mixed with the supernatural, and suspense, then this is the book for you. It is a thriller that has you thinking one way, and then within the next few pages you are on a journey that will keep you going until the end. It is like being on a roller coaster. You slowly make your way up to the top, all the time watching how high you are going. Then as you reach the top you say to yourself, “What was I thinking?” Yet it is too late to get off. This book is like a roller coaster. Once you start reading it, there is no turning back. The book will drawl you into the story and the characters. I thought I had it figured out half way through the book, and then sure as shoot I found out I was lost. I immediately put on my dunce hat that my sixteen year old grandson Jeremy made for me with duct tape. He told me if I ever needed help in writing a review to wear it. This is a great read. I rate this book R for language and violence

Southern Roots

I absolutely loved this book. The writing is so descriptive that you feel as if you have stepped into a Norman Rockwell picture. The author gives us a glimpse into his family and his ancestors that came before him. Each generation passed along stories from long ago and then added more of their own. Jimmy’s Pa was the story teller for his family. Jimmy could sit for hours and listen to his family’s history. Many nights would find him down in the basement where his Pa slept, sitting by the fire, and listening to all the old story’s his Pa had to tell. Growing up in the South was heaven for Jimmy. His mom and dad were not rich people but always managed to provide for their needs. As a child he learned to hunt, fish, gig for frogs and how to have fun in ways that city kids would never know. When he was given two hound dogs he couldn’t image that life could get any better. To this reviewer Jimmy Blackmon is the epitome of a true Southern boy. I have never read a book where the author has loved where he grew up and the people in his life more than Jimmy Blackmon. It is with the author’s words that I end this. “Roots are the place where something begins, where it springs into being. Roots anchor things. They provide strength and nourishment. My roots are my ancestors. Each generation influenced the next. I am a reflection of those who came before me. My roots anchor me. Mine are Southern.” Rated G

This book has cross generational appeal that comes along very seldom. It has intriguing twist and turns and you can never anticipate what will happen next. There is not a boring moment in this book. The characters are well thought out and interesting. All that this reviewer can say is “grab some popcorn and a coke before you start reading this book. If you are like me then you won’t just be reading but seeing a movie in action." Mr. Stamper is one heck of a story teller. This is one of the best reads of 2010. What a way to end the year. Five star rating. Sandra Heptinstall Rated PG, for violence and some sexual content

This book was released in the last months of 2010 but it should not be ignored. It hold your attention from the first to the last page. There is not a boring moment in this book. What is amazing is that it is from a first time author. This book should be made into a movie. I would buy a ticket to go and see it.

What a beautifully written book. This story will lead your heart in many different directions. It is a book of love, loss, grief, depression and finding your way back, with the grace of God. It is thought provoking and the ending is not what you think it will be. I was so surprised that I read it twice. An excellent read. Rated G

Spoken from the Heart

Laura Bush
Whispering Winds Book Reviews
, January 02, 2011
Spoken from the Heart This book is so moving in many ways. I have laughed and cried while reading it. Laura Bush has gone from the small oil town of Midland, TX, to the Governor’s Mansion in TX, to the “White House,” as our First Lady. I want to emphasize Lady as she is gracious, charming, elegant, smart and beautiful. She did not use her book as a platform to knock all of those who have said such terrible things about President Bush or herself. I had no idea how much was expected from a First Lady until I read this book. Nor did I realize how little private time they have for their family and friends. Laura Bush has worked hard to make people aware of the basic needs that everyone should have around the world. Women’s rights in Afghanistan, to literacy, both here and abroad. These are just a few of the many things she has done. To list them all would take up several pages. But she points them out in her book in hopes that others will still get on board and help. Laura has really opened up and shared a large part of her personal life with us in this book. While there were others who wanted her to be something different than what she was; Laura Bush stayed true to who she is. She is still the girl next door and a loyal friend. I feel honored to have had her as our First Lady, and all that she has done. Laura Bush has “true grit” and it doesn’t come any better than that. Rated G

My roots are my ancestors. Each generation influenced the next. I am a reflection of those who came before me. My roots anchor me. Mine are Southern.” Rated G Posted by Whispering Winds Book Reviews

Southern Roots

"Southern Roots" by Jimmy Blackmon I absolutely loved this book. Danger Diva, by Stan Stamper This book has cross generational appeal that comes along very seldom. Sandra Heptinstall Rated PG, for violence and some sexual content. Posted by Whispering Winds Book Reviews

Purpose Of Christmas
by
Rick Warren

What a wonderful book about the real meaning of Christmas. What I loved is it can bring people closer to God. Also a great tool to use if you care about someone, and they have not been saved or know Jesus. I have found great joy in this book. Plus, I was reminded of somethings I have forgotten to do on a daily bases. That is to pray for the people I love so that all can be saved, and pray for others so that they can know our Savior. When you open this book say a prayer for the gift that God gave us. That Jesus loved us so much that He died for us so that we could have eternal life with Him. If you have a friend or loved one that does not know Jesus Christ, then take this book to them so they can learn that Jesus is the reason for the season. Also that they are never alone when they have Christ in their hearts. What a blessing this book has been to me. It is a fast read yet powerful book. Rated G

Christmas at Harringtons

I was drawn to this book by its cover. It shows a woman looking into a store window at a Christmas tree and toys. It is snowing and the woman has a smile on her face. Yet when I began to read the book I found this was not your normal Christmas fare. Lena has just been released from prison where she had been incarcerated for eight years. She had gone from an over bearing father who Lena learned at an early age to do whatever he wanted, and to not question anything or else she was spanked with a wooden spoon. Into a marriage with a man who turns out to be just like her father. Only Lena’s husband posed as a minister and it was because of him that she was convicted of a crime she did not commit. While on a bus ride to what would become her new home, Lena is befriended by an elderly lady who believes that Lena is a good person, no matter what has happened in her past. Can Lena really begin again? Or will her past catch up to her? There is only one way to know and that is to buy this book. Rated G

Afterlife Agreements: A Gift from Beyond
by
Chris Mulligan
Whispering Winds Book Reviews
, November 10, 2010
After Life Agreements: A Gift From Beyone Sunday morning, October 1st, 2000, Chris Mulligan received a call that every parent fears. Her son Zac had been in an accident and she needed to get to the hospital as soon as she could. When Chris and her husband Jim reached the hospital, they were told that Zac was on life support and would not make it. The injuries to his skull were so sever he had no chance at all. After they called family to come to the hospital they took Zach off of life support. He fought for forty-six minutes but in the end he lost his fight to live. This book had me crying along with Chris. Even though she believes in reincarnation, her grief process of trying to let go of Zac in this life was profound to say the least. She managed to make it through each day at work. Yet when she left to go home her grief over took her. She could barley function at all. The author leads us through her grieving process, and tries hard to help others who have lost someone. It was through her belief process that she was able to connect with her son Zac. With Zac’s help she is able to share with others that our bodies may died, but not our souls. Even though my beliefs are different, through research, I have found that there are millions of people who believe in reincarnation. That each of us has the option of choosing what we want to learn in each life time. Zac told his mom she needed to write about what all she had been through to help others and herself to get on with life. This book I think, can help others who have lost a love one. It is filled with raw emotions and offers hope to others. It is well written and kept my attention span throughout the book. This book is rated G Sandra Heptinstall

Spoken from the Heart
by
Laura Bush
Whispering Winds Book Reviews

Spoken from the Heart This book is moving in many ways. Women’s rights in Afghanistan, to literacy, both here and to so many other countries as well. These are just a few of the things she has done. Rated G

Sisters Test 02 Sisters Of Holmes County

A Sisters Test, Book Two of "Sisters of Holmes County." In the second book of “Sister’s of Holmes County,” we find the Hostettler family continues to be under attack. “A Sister’s Test,” is filled with suspense, mystery, murder and a surprise visit from Roman’s sister Rosemary, who left home thirty years ago and was never heard from again. Could the attacker be someone from Grace’s past? Or the young Amish man who worked for Roman, and was fired. Why isn’t the Sheriff doing more to find the person who is responsible for acts of violence? This book is intriguing from the start of the book until the end. If you like this genre you will love this book. Sandra Heptinstall G rating.

The Secret of Lies

I have never read a book as intense as this book is. It is brilliantly written, and at times my husband swears I was saying, “No, you jerk, or don’t you dare.” That is how powerful this story line is. Eleanor twelve and her sister Stevie ten, leave their hometown of Callicoon, Pennsylvania to spend their vacation with their Aunt Smyrna and Uncle Cal at their summer home on Long Island, where the days are filled with swimming in the Atlantic Ocean and the sisters unending pursuit of an intriguing and mysterious boy. That is until the summer of 1957…Eleanor is now seventeen and Stevie fifteen. What happened that summer is something that has to be kept a secret, or so Aunt Smyrna tells Stevie. Stevie is trapped in a vortex and it is not only destroying her teenage years but carries over into her adult life. How many lives are altered by one moment in time, one decision made in that moment? How many moments does it take too completely and irreversibly alter one’s life? To tell you more will ruin what makes this book so great. It is a must buy for your own personal library. In our economy today buying a book can be a luxury. I would buy this book.

Paper Bag Christmas

The Paper Bag Christmas By: Kevin Alan Milne As a book reviewer I am very seldom at a loss for words. I bought this book because I love Christmas, and after reading the review on Powells, I decided to buy it. I am having a hard time finding the words to do justice to this book. It is a beautiful story of two brothers who discover, “The best gift they never wanted for Christmas.” This book has made me smile and then cry at times. I can’t recommend this book enough. All that I can say is buy this book as you will not be disappointed. I wish all parents today would do what the parents in this book have done. Teach their children it is better to give then receive. Then their children will say, "The best gift I never wanted for Christmas." I would like to say to the author, "What a wonderful gift you have for writing" Sandra Heptinstall
