Mature, deep work from one of our great writers. Stunning prose and beautiful sentences support deep characterizations and large themes. A book to keep and reread.

Sacred Order/Social Order: My Life Among the Deathworks: Illustrations of the Aesthetics of Authority Volume 1
by
Philip Rieff
Rod G
, January 02, 2010
First of three volumes, two published posthumously, representing the culmination of Rieff's thinking about Western culture and its detractors. A deep and powerful meditation delivered in a carefully compressed prose style that rewards close reading and demands erudition. It's a work that - like Leo Strauss or Kenner's The Pound Era - constitutes an education in itself if one masters it.
