Every year, the booksellers at Powell’s submit their Top Fives: their five favorite books that were released in 2023. It’s a list that, when put together, shows just how varied and interesting the book tastes of Powell’s booksellers are. Abrams Daughters Volume 1 5
by
Beverly Lewis

I have read almost every novel Beverly Lewis has written, but this series is my favorite by far. The storyline constantly twists and turns, leaving you guessing about what will happen next. Each one is a cliffhanger, and when I was first reading them, waiting almost a year for the next one to be released was agonizing. The characters are portrayed so realistically that I caught myself actually thinking about them as if they were real people. If you haven't read any Beverly Lewis books, you may not think that much can happen with an Amish family, but these books are packed with drama.

Three Cups of Tea One Mans Mission to Promote Peace One School at a Time
by
Mortenson, Greg and Relin, David Oliver

This book changed my life. Greg Mortenson's story is engaging, relevant, and inspiring. Whenever I get discouraged or think that one person can't change the world, I think of this book and it reminds of what one person can do. In the seven months since I first read this book, I have seen it explode in popularity, which is great because it means that more people are seeing what "Dr. Greg" is doing and are helping to accomplish these goals. As a future teacher, I am very interested in and uplifted by how eager these children are to go to school and to learn, but I recommend this book to everyone. It is an absolutely amazing true story that will change your outlook on life.
