One of the few books I tell people they have to read. Not suggest they read, but have to read. This book is so beautifully written and the characters are so real I felt as if I was living this story not just reading a novel. I found myself wanting to spend all my time reading so I could find out what happens to the main character, but at the same time wanted to slow down so I could delay finishing the book. The story and characters still resonate with me and it's been several months since I finished the book. It's a wonderful book about life, hope, love and redemption.

An amazing book that draws you in as soon as you start to read. The characters are so finely written that you feel that you know them and have a personal interest in their lives. Gritty, intense, brutal and honest. A great book that will stay with you long after the last page is turned.

One of those books that stays with you long after you finish reading it. The author does an incredible job of making the characters so real they come off the pages and you feel their presence with you while you're reading. The settings are realistic and vibrant, and Verghese layers the plot lines so well that the story is rich and lyrical. It's hard to say good-bye to the characters when you finish reading this book. Definitely a book to recommend to others.
