Five Book Friday: In Memoriam
(0 comment)
Every year, the booksellers at Powell’s submit their Top Fives: their five favorite books that were released in 2023. It’s a list that, when put together, shows just how varied and interesting the book tastes of Powell’s booksellers are. I highly recommend digging into the recommendations — we would never lead you astray — but today...

Pete the Cat The First Thanksgiving

We love ALL the Pete the Cat books and perhaps we were stuck in our Pete the Cat GROOVE when reading this story. It's not done in the same manner as the other books, where the kids are anticipating the next page eagerly. It seems to be intended to provide some facts about Thanksgiving but I don't think I'd select it for educational content. For how many fantastic Pete the Cat books there are, I can forgive him this one!

Blue Fairy Book

This is a great collection of stories for any child, or even an adult lover of fairy tales. Every family should have this book. It is also actually recommended on some of the Charlotte Mason homeschool blogs as a great living book for exposing children to great literature.

Classic Myths to Read Aloud The Great Stories of Greek & Roman Mythology Specially Arranged for Children Five & Up by an Educational Expert

I borrowed this book from the library and read it to my six year old over the summer. He loved it and has become so interested in greek mythology as a result. It was really enjoyable for both of us to hear the stories. I love how before each story there is an intro to set the foundation for the story as well as a list of names/words with their pronunciations. I am heading into Powell's to pick up a copy to add to our library permanently.
