A novel of a widow, with no children, moves on with her life, changes and uproots everything. Moves to Oregon, becomes a "big sister" of a "cutter" opens her own bakery and you view her thoughts on everyday life and what she wants to do and accomplish - well worth the read and you become totally engrossed in this book.

Just completed The Auschwitz Escape by Joel Rosenberg. Even though book is listed as "fiction" there are many factual dates and information. Book, in fact, was excellent, riveting, well written and kept me up all night reading this 300+ book.

Humans of New York
by
Brandon Stanton
barbaroma40
, April 08, 2014
Just completed Brandon Stanton's book of "Humans of New York." Mr. Stanton captured the real essence and personification of humans in New York as there is no "normal." You could apply Portland's "Keep Portland (New York) Weird" to the photographs in this book. Having visited NYC many times, you will never find the same person(s), costumes or timing of each photograph.

The Death of Santini: The Story of a Father and His Son
by
Pat Conroy

, December 27, 2013
Have read all of Pat Conroy's previous books, let me tell you this book outbeats them all!!! Conroy seems to be even more relaxed in his writing, really bringing every topic of the family up front - parents, grandparents, cousins, kids, you name it. Most definitely worth buying and reading.

Penny Marshall

, September 21, 2012
Just finished reading this "memoir" of Penny Marshall, a great read of a family where the kids, Garry, Penny and Ronny stuck together, helped each other throught their lives. Makes you wish you wish you were a part of their lives. A very accurate portrayal of Penny, a wholesome read and I was never let down!!!

, March 15, 2012
Just completed reading Defending Jacob and am glad to see on the Top 10 Selling list. Excellent read with twists and turns on almost every page, how a family sticks together thru thick and thin, parents trying to do the best they can for their son. A fantastic book looking at the realities of raising a child, trying to understand family dynamics during a troubled time. Well worth purchasing this great book.

Edward R Murrow & the Birth of Broadcast Journalism
by
Bob Edwards
barbaroma40
, June 15, 2008
Bob Edwards wrote a spectacular book - shows Edward Murrow at his best and striving to be the best (for himself and everyone else)!! After seeing an exhibit of Murrow in NYC - this book - shows how broadcasting was brought to life with dignity by Murrow. Ed was an inspiration for everyone - aspiring reporters / journalists and everyone interested in new.
