Beautiful Ruins

I listened to this book on my drive to and from California. I was in tears on my return around Mt.Shasta. I haven't read a book in a very long time that reached into the depths as this one did. Italy, Brando, lost chances, found realizations. Beautifully written and fully developed. My all-time favorite, ever.

Amazing times in NYC meeting the people John Cage met, mentors he studied with, history of the era, and an attempt to understand the art/music he created.

History of a Pleasure Seeker
by
Richard Mason

I first heard Richard Mason interviewed on a "Book Lust with Nancy Pearl" podcast. I was impressed by his comments and started with this book of his. Piet Barol, a young man with unflinching confidence, gains employment in an upper class house as a tutor. He is so handsome and well regarded by the couple of the house he is given privilege beyond the normal for someone of his rank. There is much pleasure to be found throughout the manor and he makes good use of the favors of the owners. I find myself thinking I have watched a movie, the scenes are so clear in my memory.
