Every year, the booksellers at Powell’s submit their Top Fives: their five favorite books that were released in 2023. Those Who Save Us
by

Those Who Save Us is from the point of view of a German mother during the Holocaust and the lengths she goes to protect her daughter. This book really makes you think about what you would do in a similar situation...And it might not be what you originally thought. Heartbreaking, and graphic, this book will transform your thinking. A great book club pick!

Autobiography Of Henry VIII
by

If you love The Tutors, then you'll love The Autobiography of Henry the VIII! A fictional history told from Henry's point of view has you actually feeling sorry for him. Through bad relationships, failing health, self pitty, and estranged children you can't help but laugh at poor Henry.

Breaking Her Fall
by

I enjoyed reading this book, but some parts seemed unbelievable. The boy, who is able to be the best soccer player on his team just one month from loosing his eye, seemed unrealistic. I think it would take a long time to adjust to the changes in perception and the soccer ball would seem more to the right or left of his vision. The ending of the book wrapped up a little too neatly for my tastes.
