this is the kind of book that is a pleasure to begin reading - you know you are in the hands of a good writer. the subject matter(crazy 'circus' family and their conflicts) is also a pleasure - i love idiosyncratic families, that are really like everyone else, only more so. kind of reminds me of john irving's fantastical morality plays, but not as preachy. i also like books that are filled with details about stuff i don't know about - like florida geography and folklore. i highly recommend this for anyone who likes a good yarn -

i have quite a few books i love for 2011, but this book is so fun, i'll pick it as my favorite. one of my favorite book things is a quest, and this book is a really fun quest, with a super cool hero. i love the bleak world that's created, and of course, the fact that the underdogs win. loved it!

this book was so fascinating i couldn't stop reading it. all the details about playing the music and writing the songs were fantastic. the way keith richards writes is very chatty and neighborly. he assumes you know what he's talking about, so there's no level of condescension or patronization -it's all very 'between us'. i also appreciated the way he talked about his drug usage - very upfront, and interesting to me. even if he gets slightly whiny about mick at times, this book is very readable and well worth the time.

i loved this book - it was so unique, and the writing was so good. describing it as a book about a person with multiple personalities doesn't do it justice. this is a book about life, tough life, and 1 person's solutions to impossible scenarios. when i read that back, it sounds like this is a typical feel good book about triumph over adversity -yuck! that's not this at all - this is funny, clever, cool and extremely fascinating. i highly recommend it.
