On A Pale Horse: Incarnations of Immortality 1

This is one of those books that changed my life - it affected my relationship with God, it is now stronger than ever; it affected my outlook on the next life, I look forward to it more than ever now; and it affected the way I live, I work like I don't need the money, love like I've never been hurt, and dance like nobody's watching! I enjoyed the other Incarnations of Immortality, but I loved this book!

Gates of Fire An Epic Novel of the Battle of Thermopylae
by

An excellent book! From the moment you begin, it captures you and catapults you along the road to "The Hot Gates"! I've read about Thermopylae since I was in my teens but no book has ever brought the battle, the culture, and the men and women involved alive so well! This is the one I buy for people who love to read! Pressfield's masterpiece!

Gates of Rome Emperor 01

This book was given to me as a gift by someone who enjoyed it a great deal. My wife also liked it. But to me it was just another attempt to make "history" more entertaining. This is the story of how "Gaius" and his pal, "Marcus", survive the helter-skelter world of Rome in the shadow of the conflict between Sulla and Marius. "Gaius" is, of course, Gaius Julius Caesar, and "Marcus" is Marc Antony. There's a slave girl that they both love, a couple of extremely old guys who are still very physically powerful and mysterious, and it just goes from there. I recommend that if you want to read about these two that you find a good history book. Of course, you could always just watch the miniseries "Rome."

Prodigal Son: Frankenstein 1
by
Dean Koontz

This is a series that may never be finished - know that before you ever begin the book. But also know that if you enjoy the writings of Dean Koontz you may not care that it never gets beyond book two. This is another classic tale from Koontz's very fertile imagination. The characters are crisp, the storyline is many layered, the conflict is clear, and the action is fast. Once again, Koontz delivers with a great story extremely well told.

Raising Black Flags
by
Stephen Sanders

This book is entitled "Raising Black Flags" and is an anthology of 40 poems about and BY pirates! All of the authors and artists are "pirates", i.e. people who spend some portion of their lives dressed as pirates and doing piratey things like vending or performing at Renaissance Faires or just studying the life and lore of the Golden Age of Piracy. Some of the poems are free verse, some are rhyming, but they all have pirates, privateers, sirens and mermaids, treasure, or life and death at sea as a theme. Some of the poets are more to my taste than others but I love some of the tales - they come alive and draw you into the action and you "see" what is going on! Some of my favorites are "The Captain's Coat," "A Tale from the Devil's Tavern," "The Angel of Death," and "A Pirate's Life for Me." I heartily recommend this book to anyone who is interested in pirates or to anyone who likes a good poem!
