Five Book Friday: In Memoriam
(0 comment)
Every year, the booksellers at Powell’s submit their Top Fives: their five favorite books that were released in 2023. Time of Gifts On Foot to Constantinople
by
Leigh Fermor, Patrick
Joan P.
, January 21, 2012
A precocious 17-year old youth travels by foot in the 1930's across Europe and writes about it as he goes. Patrick was a rebellious and very smart child. (Today he might be diagnosed with ADD!) Reading this book is a very entertaining way to learn some history, how to get along with people, and how to be courageous in a variety of situations. Leigh Fermor has written many books - add them all to your list. You won't be sorry. I wish I could have known this remarkable man.

Girl with the Dragon Tattoo

Stieg Larsson

I started to read this book at 11:00 p.m. and thought I would just read the first chapter. At each page, I had to see what came next. Same way with each chapter. Hours later, I finished this exciting and well-written story - and could hardly wait for the next one!

The Road

Cormac McCarthy

Cormac Mccarthy is one of my favorite authors. In his stories, the characters talk like people talk - they act like people act - and the reader is there, right there, to share the character's experiences.
