thankfully i had not read any of the hype and went into this read with no preconceptions. it has such an honesty about it. franzen holds a mirror up to humanity and insists on us gazing at our flaws. seeing them. eyes wide open. accepting them and he finds a way to manage to celebrate them. i anticipate his next work eagerly.

despite the "oprah pick" (which can often times annoy me) this book is truly incredible. it is a tragic tale filled with characters that you will fall in love with and care about every step of the way. i know i am not doing it justice by this lame endorsement, but you just gotta trust me. get it. read it. weep.
