Five Book Friday: In Memoriam
(0 comment)
Every year, the booksellers at Powell’s submit their Top Fives: their five favorite books that were released in 2023. It’s a list that, when put together, shows just how varied and interesting the book tastes of Powell’s booksellers are. I highly recommend digging into the recommendations — we would never lead you astray — but today...

Trump How To Get Rich
by
Donald Trump

This easy to read business book is too simple. It is broken into 1-2 page segments all concerning a different topic. The book does not fulfill its title and lacks in content about anything. Instead, Donald Trump just talks about himself and how he hates to shake hands. I would skip this book and his book called, "How to Think Like a Billionaire." I would have thought he could have hired a better writer (or had a better one on staff) to make his books a hit.

Outliers: The Story of Success
by
Gladwell, Malcolm

Under delivered on my expectations. Fun to read for the first 150 pages, then got very boring very fast. Gladwell's argument was understandable, yet not as convincing as I had hoped. I actually came away feel like if I didn't have the traits of coincidence of the book then I wouldn't be successful or as successful as some.

My First Crush Misadventures in Wine Country

Though I liked reading this book, I would recommend At Home in the Vineyard: Cultivating a Winery, An Industry and A Life by Susan Sokol Blosser. I am studying business marketing with hopes to work in the wine industry. I have read both these books and found Susan's to be a must read if you are at all interested in Oregon wine, entrepreneurship, or business autobiographies.
