Every year, the booksellers at Powell’s submit their Top Fives: their five favorite books that were released in 2023. Bob Dylan's Chronicles is my favorite book of the decade. Written by the legend himself, the book's unique style describing a unique period of history makes for a highly entertaining read.

When Dogmas Die: The Return of Biblical Equality
by
Susanna Krizo

I found "When Dogmas Die" to be a highly informative and enlightening exposé of woman's role in the bible and in Christianity throughout history. Well researched, well written and very readable, this book is relevant to understanding the nature of the place relegated to women in modern society and in the family, no matter what one's spiritual beliefs are. Not only will you learn about the representation (and misrepresentation) of women in the bible, based on sometimes faulty translations, and their place in the church and family in the context of Christianity throughout history, you will also be treated to an overview of the history of the bible's translations and, as a bonus, lessons in etymology. Despite all this education, the text flows and is a pleasure to read. I thoroughly enjoyed "When Dogmas Die" and recommend it to everyone!
