Cutting for Stone

Cutting for Stone kept this reader on a roller coaster of emotions from squeamish, to "Oh! No! moments, to horror, to tears. A truly great writer who "shows, not tells" the story. Abraham Verghese has a talent as a writer that should bring me quickly to any other books he writes.

House Of Sand & Fog

When I started reading this book...I didn't care for it...but found that I was soon empathizing/sympathizing with whatever character (except the cop) was in the chapter I was reading. I still wasn't sure I really enjoyed the book when I finished it...but it has hung with me for 5 years. Often I'll read what I consider a great book, but it fades from memory except perhaps the title. Not so with The House of Sand and Fog.
