A telling of the immigrant experience from the author's family history. Perspective is from the Italian experience but is a must read for anyone whose family emigrated to the United States during the early 1900s.

Well written and researched story of friendship, misunderstanding and the different paths life can take set in 19th century China. Interesting to read about the culture of foot binding from the character's perspective.
