Bath Massacre: America's First School Bombing
by
Arnie Bernstein
tbbycatt
, September 29, 2009
This book is an incredible account of the first school bombing in our nation's history. Skillfully laying the groundwork of the events in the months and years leading up to this disaster, the author leads us through this all but forgotten tragedy, bringing it back to life with an almost minute by minute account of the the day of the disaster. The reader is introduced to the children and families of victims and survivors both, and is given an almost chilling look into the mind of Andrew Kehoe and what possibly triggered this event. This book had me riveted from beginning to end and I couldn't recommend it more. This fascinating account is a story that needed to be retold so that it's not forgotten. Loaded with first hand accounts, the reader has a front row seat to the shocking, numbing horror of that day, and can almost smell the dust and smoke and hear the screams of children and parents alike. While the author brings the reader into the horror if the day, he manages to keep it from becoming sensationalistic tabloid style writing. Kudo's to Bernstein for telling the complete story while maintaining respect for both the living and the dead of this event.

A Note from an Old Acquaintance
by
Bill Walker

, September 20, 2009
You all know that I'm a sucker for a good love story...and this one is definitely a good love story. Bill Walker weaves an excellent story with A Note from an Old Acquaintance. He takes the reader back on a journey through the past as we watch the romance of Brian and Joanna unfold. The transitions to the past were clear and weren't jarring as I've found in some novels recently. The writing is excellent and carries the story along (it doesn't tend to stagnate or get lost within itself as sometimes happens with this genre). The only problem I had with the book was that for me I didn't like the cover. I tend to 'judge a book by it's cover' and I think a lot of readers do too. I didn't find the cover art all that appealing, so I wasn't sure what to expect. But don't let the cover deter you from reading this excellent story, you'll be glad you read it!

Dirkle Smat and the Flying Statue
by
Garthwaite, Lynn D.

I wasn't sure what to expect when I picked this up to read it. Quite honestly I didn't find the cover art appealing at all. But I have to say that I absolutely loved this book! What fun Dirkle and his friends have together! And what child that age isn't going to love names like Dirkle, and Toonie and Fiddy? I thought the book was completely enjoyable and wonderfully written. I really was impressed with the quality of Ms. Garthwaite's writing and was completely hooked on this great little book. This book is like the "Maximum Ride" for 5 year olds. I'd recommend this adventure for girls and boys alike. Definately a great addition to your child's own library. I'm sure you'll become a fan of Dirkle and his pals like I have.

A Talent Lost/A Life with a Purpose: The Linda Dale Story
by
Cook, Linda Dale

, March 17, 2009
I was asked to review this by the author and I was thankful for the opportunity to do so. This is a nice little book that Linda has written about her experiences growing up, and the tragic car accident that dramatically changed her life. It's an inspiring story of a girl that didn't give up or give in. I really enjoyed reading it and I think it would be inspiring to others who are going through difficult times in their lives. Linda was an extremely talented girl who was horribly injured in a car accident, and then went on with determination to take her life back. This book could be an inspiration to many.

Girl She Used To Be
by
David Cristofano
tbbycatt
, March 17, 2009
I have to say right off the bat that I loved this book. First of all the plot is something completely fresh and different. It isn't your usual romance and not your usual mafia-type book, and yet it combines both elements in a story that is outrageous at the same time that it makes perfect sense. David Cristofano is definately an author to keep watching. The story he's woven here is nothing short of amazing and even after reading the description of the book isn't what you expect when you start it. There are twists and turns that the reader most likely won't see coming. Expect the unexpected with this book! This is Cristofano's first novel and he's hit one out of the ballpark with this one. This is a book everyone should be, and will be reading in 2009! The book isn't a huge read at 256 pages, so it's a good rainy Sunday, curled-up-on-the-couch kinda book. I hope you all pick up a copy and get to read it. If you do, let me know what you think of it. I'm betting you'll be a fan long before you read the last page.

Mr & Mrs Fitzwilliam Darcy Two Shall Become One
by
Lathan, Sharon

I don’t even know where to start with this wonderful book. I had heard from a few people that they thought it was too explicit compared to Jane Austen. Keeping that in mind, I plunged in and I loved it! There are no more of the Victorian chaste kisses, this is a full blown romance. The story has the characters acting as any newly married couple would act. I didn’t think it was very explicit at all., in fact I thought it was wonderfully written and kept me enthralled until the end. I found myself sighing once again over this couple. Darcy emerges as wonderfully romantic husband. We get to see the struggles they go through in the early days and see their love triumph. There is enough of the ’feel’ of Jane Austen to delight all fans of her novels. For me this was a great book and I’m excited that this is just the first in the series that follows this couple. I’m going to be first in line for the rest of the series!

Rogue Cat Star Chronicles 03

All I can say is WOW! I hadn't read the first books in this series and normally sci-fi isn't my top of the list favorite genre to read. I had no idea how a sci-fi romance would work, and I was happily surprised. This book if totally fun! There is always something completely unexpected around the corner with this romance. The book is very explicit, so there are some who just shouldn't crack the cover of this one. And obviously it's not meant for teens. But for everyone else I'd recommend that you pick this book up. Personally, I'm going to go back and read the earlier books, and I'm definitely looking forward to upcoming books in the series. This book is just plain HOT!

Free Yourself to Love The Liberating Power of Forgiveness
by
Jackie Kendall
tbbycatt
, March 02, 2009
We all have someone who we are holding a grudge against, but how do we let go? Jackie Kendall is embracing the subject of forgiving those unforgiveables in your life. NOT forgiving someone is a sin; she explains how and why this is so, and why if you want to move on and have loving relationships you need to conquer that. I thought this book was great. We all have baggage from our pasts that really threaten our happiness in the future. I know I had feelings of unforgiveness against my ex-husband. This really opened my eyes to how to find forgiveness towards him and how that could open up my future. Whether you’re angry at an abusive husband or parent, a friend who said the wrong thing, people in your office, or even your children Jackie helps you understand why you need to forgive them, and how to do it. The book also examines the artificial forgiveness we all seem to practice on a daily basis. Have you ever told little white lie excusing people’s actions to their faces and then silently stew about the offense. This book is a must read for just about everyone. Believe me, it will shine a bit of light in places you didn’t know you had to work on!

When Evil Came to Good Hart
by
Mardi Link
tbbycatt
, February 16, 2009
I spotted this gem of a true-life crime novel one day while surfing on Amazon. For anyone who is a fan of true crime novels or cold case books this is a great choice. This is an accounting of an unsolved murder that took place 40 years ago in Good Hart, Michigan. It's about the murders of a wealthy Detroit family vactioning in Good Hart in 1968. It was the American dream at the time, to escape the city and be able to spend the summer on the shore, and instead turned into a mystery. Dick and Shirley Robison and their 3 teen age boys and young daughter were found in July of 1968 murdered in their cabin. The story we're told is based on newspaper accounts, court documents and interviews with the people involved. What at first looks like your typical American family is quickly discovered to be full of even more mystery that confused authorites and made the crime impossible to solve. This writing in this book is wonderful and keeps you riveted. It's hard hitting and factual, and yet involves the reader in the last days of this families lives in a way that is anything but dry. This is a book I'd recommend to all fans of mystery and whodunits.

Undercover Alien
by
Barbara Romo
tbbycatt
, February 16, 2009
This book has a really original plotline: an alien who is investigating alien abductions. That said, I wasn't sure how this was going to playout and if it was going to be believable. I'm not the biggest sci fi fan. Not my favorite genre. That's part of why I was drawn to this book when the author offered it to me. Expanding the horizons! Well consider them expanded! This book was fun and adventurous at the same time it was a sexy romance. First we have Hanna, who is a Ufologist. She interviews people who claim they were abducted. Gideon is half Earther and half Olam. Together they work together to save Earth from being taken over by the N'weretil and in the process discover they are Lifemates. Lots of action and adventure in between some smokin' (literally) sex scenes. I'd definitely recommend this book.

While My Sister Sleeps
by
Barbara Delinsky
tbbycatt
, February 16, 2009
Goodness, I had thought this book sounded so good when I read about it. So I contacted the author to see if she'd be kind enough to send me a copy. I have to say that this book is the most amazing book. It's going on my list of favorite books of all time! While the premise of the story is one we've heard before, I could never have imagined the depths that it would uncover. The emotions that it evokes are complex and will have you really feeling a bit raw. All of us have wondered at one time or another how we'd handle this type of tragedy in our family, which is why I'm sure this story will resonate so strongly with everyone who reads it. The struggles this family goes through as they accept what they have to do, and then actually doing it, is heartbreaking. But Barbara Delinsky doesn't stop with just that. We get an intimate look into the relationship of daughters and mothers, and two sisters, and husbands and wives. The layers that are peeled away little by little just make the story that much more intense. It makes you wonder if you know your family as well as you think you do. I have to admit that I was in tears at more than one point in the book. This book is being released today...and my recommendation is that you run out and get it...NOW! Obviously I loved this book.
