Gourmet Rhapsody

Just in time for holiday overindulgence, this novel is a veritable feast of sensual food writing. Using a kaleidoscopic structure, shifting the narrative from one character to another, the reader is invited to participate in the search for the perfect food - a dying restaurant critic's final wish. In luxuriant, evocative prose that seems to stay in the mind the way a delectable flavor lingers on the palate, Barbery takes us on an unforgettable gustatory journey, revealing much about human interaction and, yes, the meaning of life.

One of the most appealing heroines in modern fiction, she is sophisticated enough to take full advantage of what post-war Paris has to offer, while embracing life with all the energy, freshness, and innocence of youth. Through her we experience the freethinking possibilities of an intoxicating time and place.
