Every year, the booksellers at Powell’s submit their Top Fives: their five favorite books that were released in 2023. It’s a list that, when put together, shows just how varied and interesting the book tastes of Powell’s booksellers are. I highly recommend digging into the recommendations — we would never lead you astray — but today...

Wood Wife

Terri Windling has created a masterpiece with The Wood Wife. Starting out in an apparently mundane world, she introduces mystery and enchantment with a deft hand, while retaining the nitty-gritty of the 'normal' world. Anyone familiar with, and enamoured of, the works of Brian Froud, Charles de Lint or Neil Gaiman will most certainly enjoy this wonderful story.

Rancher Ferrets On The Range

Of all the stories of the Ferret Chronicles, this is my absolute favourite. I laughed and cried as I read Monty and Cheyenne's stories. The ending was astounding and (because of my extreme fondness of certain aspects of horse whispering AND of the 1990s sensation Riverdance) it was one of the few books that I read over again immediately after finishing it - I was that reluctant to leave this part of 'the ferret world' that Mr. Bach created.

Writer Ferrets Chasing The Muse

Writer Ferrets Chasing the Muse by Richard Bach -- This is an absolutely wonderful story about a ferret who wants to write the 'GREAT NOVEL' and what he finds out about himself and his own true self. A part of The Ferret Chronicles, the book can stand by itself as its own story and fits intrinsically into the 5 story series which is contained in the one book - Curious Lives. (This story set is my favourite of all that Richard Bach has written.)
