Every year, the booksellers at Powell’s submit their Top Fives: their five favorite books that were released in 2023. I have seen many glowing reviews of this book, which is why I bought it. Gotta say though- it bored the poop out of me and my kids. Did not offer much in the way of new and insightful, practical, specific solutions or speak in an engaging format. Like telling me to stop and ask my kids what they would do in different situations is not that helpful. My daughter, who is 7 was like "mom, we have already heard all this stuff before...this is boooring". I had to agree, it was. I am now reading them the 'How to Stand Up for Yourself and Your Friends' book and it is a LOT better. My kids really like it.

Incubus Dreams Anita Blake 12

If this had been the first book of this series I read it would also have been the last. But I started at the beginning with Guilty Pleasures. The main character Anita Blake has always walked a delicate line for me, bordering on unlikeable and unrelatable...face it, bitchy. The supernatural detective/magical badass parts of this series grabbed my attention and kept it book after book - many I could hardly put down until they were done. Unfortunately, Incubus Dreams has a little bit of the detective story, the supernatural fantasy and a whole lot of talk talk talk, erotic weird sadistic animal and vampire sex, lets talk a LOT more about our feelings and all the characters feelings and lets even try to put a LOT of dialogue in the middle of an erotic sex scene so that it drags on for 30 pages. I really don't mind some steamy sex talk but the author has really run amuck here in my opinion. The last 4-5 books in this series have really been sliding downhill. I cannot bring myself to read another one of her books now, the only way I finished this one was by skipping over pages and pages of drivel.
