Every year, the booksellers at Powell’s submit their Top Fives: their five favorite books that were released in 2023. It’s a list that, when put together, shows just how varied and interesting the book tastes of Powell’s booksellers are. Get Backers 01

Get Backers is the amazing series about Amano Ginji and Midou Ban and their almost 100% retrieval service. Essentially Ginji and Ban use their supernatural powers to get back items stolen or lost. Ginji, the former Lightening Emperor, is fun and childish while Ban remains the more serious member. The two act off each other and make a fun, yet dangerous duo. Ginji's "Jagan" aka the Evil Eye creates realistic nightmares that shock and dismay his enemies. This series is honestly worth every penny except that the translation company TokyoPop decided to be insanely stupid with their slang. Ginji and Ban call each other "Bro" back and forth for no reason. They even say that something is "Hip" and "Whack". It just comes across stupid. It makes an awesome series turn into an absolute joke. So the series=awesome, translations=horrible. TokyoPop could have done so much better and respected the work, instead they destroyed it, mocked it, and made it almost unbearable to read.

Scion RPG Hero

This is an amazing RPG that allows you to play a legendary hero, a Scion, a child of a god and mortal. The opening story is worth the price of this book alone, but continue to read and it opens a world of possibilities to you. If you have a time to actually start a game, I think you'll be amazed at how much you can do, how amazing the idea is. The book provides 6 sample characters all from a different Pantheon, all with a complete bio and countless samples to just begin to stimulate the imagination.
