Every year, the booksellers at Powell’s submit their Top Fives: their five favorite books that were released in 2023. Gordon Ramsays Healthy Appetite
by
Gordon Ramsay
OnTheRun
, October 10, 2009
In my bid to eat healthier I brought Gordon Ramsay's 'Healthy Apetite' and after a couple of weeks of making the dishes in the book I actually do feel helthier and like I'm eating properly. The recipies in the book offer variety of fresh, healthy, delicious dishes and some of the dishes are also quick to make, which is very important in my fast-paced lifestyle. I strongly recommend this book for anyone trying to eat more healthier but are bored of the healthy bland dishes on offer in the stores.

Notes From An Exhibition
by
Patrick Gale
OnTheRun
, September 19, 2009
Gale writes with a subtle hand about family dimensions and an artist with bi-polar, giving you more understanding into her life as well as how her disorder contributes to her work. The novel is beautifully written and the time shifts are so vividly engrossing that you can't put it down till the end when the mystery is solved. It is a great read!

Oh What A Lovely War
by
Joan Littlewood
OnTheRun
, September 17, 2009
I read this for my A- levels and this is a great satirical funny, comedy highlighting important issues; comically in an attempt to highlight the serious issues of the war: such as the mass loss of lives, lack of equipment, people profiting from the war and the uncertainty of the war. I highly recommend this to anyone studying war literature or for anyone wanting to better understand the war in an entertaining way rather than through a boring history book.

Woman in Black a Ghost Story
by
Susan Hill
OnTheRun
, September 16, 2009
The story features a young solicitor named Arthur Kipps whoes dispatched to the north of England to settle the affairs of the recently-deceased Mrs. Drablow, an elderly woman who lived at the remote Eel Marsh House. It is a chilling ghost story that was recommended to me by a friend and I was not disappointed, this was a thrillingly scary read and with each appearance of the woman in black I felt goose bumps and found myself repeatedly looking over my shoulder. I would recommend this to anyone who loves vivid horror novels.

Perfume The Story Of A Murderer
by
Patrick Suskind
OnTheRun
, September 14, 2009
This was the first novel I read by Patrick Suskind and it is a extordinary novel! It makes you more aware of the scents all around you as it breakes every smell down to the berest scent. Suskind's central character, Grenouille, has no human social attributes at all and no scent but he has the uncanny ability to identify scents where-ever they maybe and later he learns to synthesize and steal other people's scents, mainly thoes of beautiful virgins. Suskind's main character comes to a surprising end that will shock the reader!

Other Daughter
by
Lisa Gardner
OnTheRun
, September 12, 2009
This is a fast- paced mystery book that will leave you guessing till the end. The main character, who was adopted as a young girl by a rich doctor and his glamorous wife, after she is left dumped in a hospital nameless; feels all is not how it seems. We are rapped up in the main characters confusion of her mystery paternity and the secrecy in her family. This book is guaranteed to keep you entertained as it contains all the elements of a good book: romance, mystery and murder.

Chocolate Run
by
Dorothy Koomson
OnTheRun
, September 11, 2009
I read this book in the summer and it was a great read both a light chick-lit and also a book about trust and commitment. The main character Amber was very unique character to the ones you usually find in romance novels- as she was not superficial, making her love story between her and her friend Greg more enjoyable. I’d definitely recommend Chocolate run and all Dorothy Koomson books!
