When my grandparents got me this book, many years ago, i immediately loved it. The mystery, the tension, the smart female heroine it started my reading the entire series through my local library (all of which are great, but this one is my favorite).

A lovely story, that involves self-discovery and the description of Chinese cooking/food. The food imagery in this book made me want to discover Chinese food for myself! The "mystery" through out the book is almost second to the journey that the main character takes. Very enjoyable read.

A thought provoking book that shows us our human need for connection to a place or person, and how sometimes that need can lead to a restlessness that drives us. The main character is always searching for that connection that will make him feel fulfilled. In no way does this book give you happy endings, but it does leave you thinking.

The book for the most part was entertaining. The author tried to connect every character and storyline for a seamless story, but it ended making the majority of the book feel rushed and forced. Several of the couples that get together just don't seem to make any sense. But overall as a quick read it did it's job.

I've found the series brilliant, whimsical and full of adventure and laugh out loud moments. The first two books in the series are my favorite, but the others do not disappoint. If you enjoyed the movie, you'll love the book more (isn't that always the case?). The book(s) are just down right entertaining (some what reminiscent of Doctor Who) but much funnier and over the top (if you can believe it).
