Every year, the booksellers at Powell’s submit their Top Fives: their five favorite books that were released in 2023. It’s a list that, when put together, shows just how varied and interesting the book tastes of Powell’s booksellers are. & Baby Makes More Known Donors Queer Parents & Our Unexpected Families
by

This book is an invaluable resource for any queer woman having a baby with a known donor, any donor helping someone have a baby, and anyone close to either party in any way, or really anyone curious about the myriad dynamics of these situations. There is really nothing else out there like this (so far), and as the number of families created in this way grows (and it certainly is growing fast in my community) this will be a must-read for many people. As a single queer woman having a baby on my own with a known donor, it made me feel so much less isolated. So glad some wise women decided to put this together.

Fingersmith

Historical fiction at it's best and most enjoyable. I have not lost so much sleep for a book in a very long time. Thought it took me a little while to get into at at first, once I did, I was totally hooked. Incredibly suspenseful and fascinating the particular way that she somewhat unexpectedly tells the story from both protagonists' point of view. This was one that stayed with me for quite a while after I finished it; I'd wake up wondering what became of the characters, Sue and Maud. I was sorry it was over, but glad I still have a few more of Sarah Waters' books to read.
