I loved this beautifully written historical novel. The world created by the author was so vivid and interesting, I can't wait for the second book to revisit this exciting place and time!

A standout in the dystopian future genre that is so popular now. Tris is a great lead character and her transformation through the book is very inspiring. I can't wait to read the next installment!

Gregor the Overlander
by
Suzanne Collins

Prior to writing The Hunger Games, Suzanne Collins introduced readers to an underground world full of fascinating and sometimes frightening creatures. In Gregor the Overlander, first book in The Underland Chronicles we meet Gregor and his little sister Boots who are living an ordinary life in New York City. That ordinary life becomes extraordinary when they fall down a laundry chute into a whole new world. This series chronicles their adventures underground, where they encounter giant rats, mice, cockroaches and even people. I loved this series, it's well written, fast-paced, has a great plot and characters. I especially enjoyed seeing Gregor grow into his role of the hero and work hard to protect his sister. If you are looking for another great series from Suzanne Collins, you won't be disappointed by this one.

Seven Kingdoms 02 Fire

This companion book to Graceling, perfectly balances fantasy with romance, adventure and suspense. I didn't think another book could measure up to Graceling but Fire is just as good, if not better. I am eagerly awaiting the next book from Kristin Cashore.

If I Stay
by

Mia is gravely injured in a car accident that kills her family. As her body lies in a coma in the hospital her spirit is free to wander. Mia must decide whether to live or die. Readers will struggle to make the decision along with her as they relive her life through a series of flashbacks. I found this book compelling and thought provoking and I was kept wondering until the end what her choice would be.

Life as We Knew It

In this great story of survival, Miranda and her family must learn how to live in a whole new world after the moon is pushed closer to the earth by an asteroid. People are unprepared for the devastation this event will cause and must learn to cope without the comforts we are used to. I found this book riveting.

Candor

A great example of "be careful what you wish for". The people living in Candor have everything they want, including perfectly behaved children. Unfortunately the price that must be paid for that behavior is heartbreaking. I look forward to reading more by this author and hope that a sequel to Candor might be in the works.
