Just Mercy: A Story of Justice and Redemption by Bryan Stevenson
    alsek, May 19, 2017
Tremendous book, truly a must read for every American. Bryan Stevenson is a true hero and patriot fighting injustice in our criminal justice system. This book was one of the best non-fiction books I have read in the last 5-10 years. Highly recommended, I don't think you will be disappointed. We have a long way to go as a country and need more people like Bryan Stevenson who has dedicated his life to righting wrongs.

Don Winslow's best book to date which is saying a lot. Do yourself a favor and block out a day or two and settle in for a gret read. Highly recommended.

Lark & Termite by Jayne Anne Phillips
    alsek, February 07, 2009
A wonderful novel by an accomplished writer. Set in West Virginia and Korea during the 1950's. Do yourself a favor and buy a first printing of this book which certainly is going to become a collectible. If you don't believe me simply read the blurbs on the back from a trio of heavyweights - Alice Munro, Junot Diaz and Tim O'Brien.

Outstanding first work of fiction set in northern Wisconsin. The main protagoninst is a mute boy who makes for the wilds with a group of canine companions. One of the most moving works of fiction I've read this year. Do yourself a favor and escape into this wonderful book.

All The Sad Young Literary Men by Keith Gessen
    alsek, June 03, 2008
Erudite first novel, both funny and sad. Gessen writes about Sam, Mark, and Keith as they struggle to find meaning and purpose in their post-undergraduate lives. Highly recommended.

    The Boat by Nam Le
    alsek, June 02, 2008
Outstanding first work by an author who is definitely one to watch. This book of short stories will grab you and won't let go. One of the best publications I've read this year. I am very anxious to see what Nam Le writes next and how many awards he will win. Sensational.

Animal Vegetable Miracle A Year of Food Life by Barbara Kingsolver
    alsek, May 06, 2007
A wonderful, nourishing account of a year in which Barbara Kingsolver and family consumed only food that they either raised themselves or was produced in close proximity to their Virginia farm. The reader will be tickled by the description of their turkey's sex life and their daughter's egg business. You will think differently about your next meal after reading this insightful book and hopefully become a regular at your favorite farmer's market. Highly recommended.

    Thirteen Moons by Charles Frazier
    alsek, October 16, 2006
Wonderful follow up to COLD MOUNTAIN. Certainly worth the ten year wait. Charles Frazier's compelling novel is set in his beloved mountains of western North Carolina and follows the incredible life of the orphan Will Cooper. Readers will delight in Frazier's mastery of history and language in his compelling second book. Wrap yourself up in a blanket, put some wood in the fireplace and open this book.
