This gripping story has so much to hold your interest. It is delightfully long and detailed. I really felt like I was traveling right alongside the protagonist and uncovering the clues that had been buried beneath the years. In this book myths turn out to be real and history comes alive.

Of Bees & Mist

I was blown away by this book! It was like nothing else I have ever read. Erick Setiawan's genius is in his ability to conjure up totally fresh metaphors that instantly depict the depth and complexity of human relationships. It is an ageless tale that seems to channel generations worth of stories, while also touching on contemporary themes. It has only been a few months since I first discovered Of Bees and Mist and I am already itching to re-read it.

Maze Runner 01
by
James Dashner

Dashner has created a strange but believable world that captured my interest and kept me reading. The Maze Runner sets up a very suspenseful story with an end-of-the-world type theme. At first it seems that the action is confined to trying to solve a maze, but by the end of the novel the setting has broadened and new mysteries are hinted at. I look forward to reading the next installment and finding out what is going on. I would recommend this book to anyone who likes suspenseful science fiction and particularly to teenage boys: what with the heroic young male protagonist, the spots of blood and gore plus the mysteries to solve, it is a great choice for them.

This is my favorite read for 2009!It was very unique in that it described ordinary human relationships in a magical way. The writing style and the bizarre elements of the story really drew me in and caught my full attention. The characters were passionate and dramatic. The setting was vague and mystical. Most of all I loved all the imagery. This is a book I will definitely read again. There is such variety and depth to it that I would not get bored. I highly recommend it.

Possibility Of Everything
by
Hope Edelman

In The Possibility of Everything Hope Edelman shares with us an emotional journey that revolves around her parenting fears concerning her young daughter. When her little girl becomes attached to a disruptive imaginary friend Edelman and her husband take her to Belize to consult with a local healer. This book is beautifully written and very descriptive. It was so easy to enter into the emotions and setting that it felt like a creative documentary.

Chronic City

Wow. This book had my head spinning. I did not know what to make of it at first. I kept turning those numerous pages though and found myself deep in the grip of the characters. Lethem has skillfully captured contemporary urban life with it's uniquely constructed reality. His themes adeptly reflect the ideas of our times.
