by
Laura Hillenbrand

Hillenbrand tells the story of Lou Zamperini an athletically gifted young man who goes to the second world war and experiences the worst traumas, imprisonment, and torture imaginable. The level of detail and the psychological impacts of torture are extremely well written. I highly recommend this book.

Before reading this book, watch the dvd called "Man on Wire". This will give a greater appreciation of the first five pages which are among the best pages in literature. I loved this book.
