Five Book Friday: In Memoriam
(0 comment)

Ella In Bloom
by

This is one of my favorites of Hearon's novels about family ties. As a girl in Austin, Texas, Ella always played second fiddle to her older, perfect, piano-playing sister. She felt second best and second rate, so she eascaped into an early marriage. Twenty-five years later, in the wake of her sister's accidental death, the now-widowed Ella tries to reinvent herself into a genteel lady in the eyes of her demanding mother. But her untidy life in New Orleans with her teenage daughter flowers everytime she visits Austin. Which life does Ella really want?

Count on an unreliable narrator to spin an intricate web of mystery and identity in the dark woods and minds of contemporary Ireland. Then read 'The Likeness.'
