Blood on the Feather
by
Melinda Elmore

, December 09, 2011
What a great inspirational, suspenseful read I found in the book, BLOOD ON THE FEATHER, by one of my favorite authors, Melinda Elmore. This mysterious, magical story begins as an archaeologist, DeShay Graywater, digs for relics in a dig site near Eagle Nest Canyon in South Dakota, while looking for artifacts of the history of her people, the Lakota. She finds the body of a woman and contacts the tribal police department. Officer T. J. Hawke and Special FBI Agent Melina Wolfe work together to unravel the murder investigation of a local teenager, Abby Winters. A romance is renewed between Hawke and Melina as they work together and also a love develops between Ryan Cronk, a tribal officer and DeShay. The investigation leads to drugs, motorcycle gangs and money, before they find the killer. The story was a very romantic thriller, but as I read about the Native American Lakota tribe and their beliefs and traditions, I was drawn into the rich heritage and the magical imagery of the various animals that lead the characters to the killer of Abby. The blood on a feather found at the site is very instrumental in finding the solution, and the study of the different characters of the animals in the Lakota culture weaved an inspirational quality of the medicine man beliefs such as: The owl symbolizes wisdom The elk is known for his strength The spider represents the four wind of change and the four sacred directions on the medicine wheel How the crow came to be black The buffalo is a sign of prayer and abundance Seeing the buffalo, the hawk, and the wolf in the same day is a sign of good fortune and love The turtle is a symbol of Mother Earth Butterflies indicate a need for change and symbolizes courage The Hawk is a messanger and helps solve the mystery I appreciated the value that everyone can learn in their own lives from reading about the Native American culture and the animal spiritual world. This book shows how God created all animal and human forms to work together for the greater good of all. I highly recommend BLOOD ON THE FEATHER for everyone who wants to learn about Native American culture and also compassion in their own life.

Touching the Clouds
by
Bonnie Leon

I loved reading TOUCHING THE CLOUDS by Bonnie Leon. Her book is a very fun read that is out of the normal romantic read. I love that the book is a Christian fiction about a very adventuous young lady named Kate who is a bush pilot in the wilds of Alaska. She has a relationship with two extraordinary men- one a nice, reliable, steady co-worker and the other a guy who she delivers to in her travels, with a past that has me guessing and by the way so does Kate, who runs from her parents and her frightening past. I enjoyed reading about the Alaskan history. I felt as if I were right there, sharing in Kate's adventures. Bonnie has become a favorite writer of mine and I feel very kin to her as a friend. Thanks for a great read and I look forward to read more of Bonnie's books in the future. Such a great escape from the mundane duties of life, and Bonnie writes about putting your trust in God who will never fail you! What a great lesson!

Bittersweet
by
Marcia Colette

“Bittersweet by Marcia Colette is not an ebook I would usually pick out and read, but I met the author at a book-signing and was very impressed by her. So I decided to read one of her books. I am so glad I did. Now here are my views on Bittersweet. Phaedra is a teenage girl with the burden of running a household. She cares for her little sister, Nadia, and her mother, who is a schizophrenic with powers that must be locked in the attic because of her madness. When her mother consumes bittersweet leaves which last only a lilttle while, Phaedra has a break from all the madness. Phaedra shares the same powers as her mother and as she gets older can succumb to the same madness as her mother and must decide what to do before the madness happens to her and her little sister. Abandoned by her father and her brother, she must keep outsiders from finding out about their unusual problems, especially the Child Services and the nozy neighbors and not attract attention to their plight. Phaedra desires to have a normal family life and will do anything to protect her family. Phaedra's brother, Kurt, returns promising that he has a cure for their illnesses, but he comes with danger that threatens to destroy everything. Some parts of the storyline are believable but others I am unsure about, which makes this a very thought-provoking book. Marcia is an amazing writer with an intense and fast paced storyline with a strong lead character, Phaedra. I was drawn into the characters plights and will be reading more of Marcia Colette's books

Intervention
by
Terri Blackstock

I really liked Intervention by Terri Blackstock. It was an awesome book that told the story of a teen addicted with drugs that with her mother and brothers unrelenting help eventually came to Christ. Her father died a couple of years ago, so that was why she chose to turn to drugs-it was her way of grieving. This book really tells the tale of how others are affected by the actions of an addictive person within the family. However, on her way to intervention, her interventionist gets killed and she gets kidnapped. So her mother and little brother go on a search to find her.The love of the mother for her daughter was never extinguished even though it appeared her daughter would never come around. How many parents would mortgage their home to pay for treatment of an unwilling child? That's what Barbara Covington did and it paid off though not in the way she expected. During the time the daughter is kidnapped, she learns what Christ did for her. He took all of her pain and suffering at the cross so she could have eternal life in Heaven. I thought the book was awesome because the plot involved a teenage girl coming to Christ after a life of drugs. She finally realized what Jesus had done for her, so that she wouldn't have to. I think this is a book with a lesson to be learned. I would definitely recommend this book to everyone.

Out of the Darkness
by
Lilly Gayle

, January 08, 2011
In Lily Gayle's modern day paranormal romance, OUT OF THE DARKNESS, Vincent Maxwell is a vampire who wants to be human again and discovers that Dr. Megan Harper has discovered a possible cure to vampirism, so he worms his way into her research and into her heart as well. Can a vampire and a mortal find a way to blend their lives and in the process find happiness together? The plot turns, the familiar settings and the sexual scenes between Megan and Vincent were a fantastic, a can't put down read and the surprising ending was superb with supporting characters such as a compelling vixon (Sonia), and a best friend (Tina). Of course, as an added attraction there were very chilling villains. OUT OF THE DARKNESS is Lilly Gayle's first novel, but I'm sure there will be many more entertaining novels in the future.

A new children's author, Stacie Williams has written a beautiful, very informative, educational book, THE HOUSE WITH 9 ROOMS. Room 1 is a theme park room with big animals and what children can learn about them. Room 2 is for girls and tells about all the sugar and spice items that girl's love. Room 3 is for boys and tells all the items that boy's love such as cars, Room 4 is about being a kid and enjoying children's character's such as Mickey and Minnie. Room 5 is a room of colors and shapes. Room 6 is everything beautiful such as diamonds and pearls. Room 7 is about cavemen and dragons. Room 8 is about the different seasons-Spring, Summer, Fall, and Winter. Room 9 is about having all your wishes fulfilled, just be careful about what you wish for. This is the best room in the house. Stacie's book is a must have for children to learn about all things. She has pin-pointed a very informative, beautifully illustrated book that draws a child into a world of rooms.

Sleeping with the Lights on
by
Brenda Whiteside

, October 11, 2010
I thoroughly enjoyed reading Brenda Whiteside’s SLEEPING WITH THE LIGHTS ON. Sandra Holliday, the heroine brings riveting romances between two men. Wesley, the man she’s met to end her years of less than perfect choices; choices that left her single and broke. Then, along comes Carson Holiday, who drops back into Sandra’s life, reigniting an attraction they can’t deny. When Carson reappears, Sandra must choose again. Here’s one scene from the book that will entice a person to read this spell-binding book: Pulling me around, we stopped, facing each other. My head said run like hell, but my legs wouldn’t respond. Mushy from wine or Carson and moonlight. I couldn’t be sure which. “Have lunch with me tomorrow, darlin’.” His fingers slipped from mine to gingerly brush along my forearm. The moonlight caught in his eyes. “Another hour of your time with a long lost friend?” “Yes.” My voice went all husky and come-hither. I wanted to kick myself for being so easy. “Good.” Grasping my hand again, he led me toward the door. “What’s the address of your office?” I struggled to shake off the moon shadows and to remember where I worked. Once inside the building, I took a scrap of paper from my purse and wrote the address. “I’ll walk you to your door and say goodnight,” he said, tucking the scrap of paper in his pocket. “Unless you want to have me in for a goodnight drink.” I didn’t answer. If he’d only known the extent of my uncertainty at that moment, a little persistence might have made me cave. “Okay, then—” His mouth gaped. I followed his bewildered look to my apartment door. The plot thickens, with a secret admirer, a redheaded stalker, and an eccentric millionaire that throws her on a dangerous path. A surprising ending will throw the readers. I am a fan of Brenda’s and am waiting for her next book patiently.

Out of the Darkness

Lilly Gayle

Dr. Megan Harper finds herself caught up in the mystery and strange events of modern-day vampirism, just as Dr. Julia Hoffman, portrayed by Grayson Hall, discovered Barnabas Collins curse and attempted to cure him, but instead fell in love with him in the popular television supernatural drama, Dark Shadows that ran from 1966 to 1971. Barnabas, played by Jonathan Frid, portrayed a mysterious romantic vampire in a dark, swirling cape. Of course, as an added attraction there were very chilling villains. OUT OF THE DARKNESS is Lilly Gayle's first novel, but I'm sure there will be many more entertaining novels in the future.

The Guardians: Loving Eyes Are Watching
by
Richard Williams

I just read this book from the library that I thought you would be interested in reading. The author has been active in Christian Ministry for over 28 years. It's a romance mystery where two people's (a sister and brother) life is turned upside down and they find out where true help comes from. Two dogs will help them find their way back to the path of God's love. The best book I've read in years.
