Dreams of Joy

This is a most thought provoking story that is set in Communist China. Although it is a sequel story, it truly stands on its own. Anyone who has read "Wild Swans" will also appreciate reading this story which touches on hardships of lviing during these terrible times. The story centers around Joy, a young girl who flees Los Angles after finding out her actual mother's true identity, in search of her roots and birth father. From here, her actual birth mothers follows in search of finding Joy and bringing her back to the US. There are so many layers to this story, it is sure to provide plenty of material to discuss and ponder.

This is a lovely story set in London during the Blitz. I was able to share the book with my parents, who grew up during this terrible time. It borught back a lot of memories for them and provided a lot of discussion within our family. Although a lot of tragic events, it has a happy ending that will be sure to generate discussion with book groups. This novel is more of literary work than just a "story". Highly recomended.
