The Complete Guide to Writing Effective College Applications & Essays for Admission and Scholarships: Step-By-Step Instructions [With CDROM]
by
Kathy L. Hahn
kristenlwatson
, February 15, 2010
This book is a useful reference guide for high school juniors or seniors seeking assistance with college admission essays and applications. The authors effectively tailored their writing style to the high school-aged audience. A personal story from the author in the introduction was a great way to garner interest from the reader immediately. Rather than boring the reader with endless paragraphs of advice, the authors utilized numerous case studies throughout the book. Also, ideas for essays were given, as well as hypothetical scenarios to trigger the brainstorming process. A step-by-step guide of writing an admission essay was extremely helpful with the inclusion of sample essays. College applicants would benefit greatly from both the scholarship and debt sections in this book. Overall, this guide is a valuable tool for any student undergoing the stressful process of applying to college.

by
Cynthia Resser

, February 15, 2010
This book provides a detailed and realistic guide to writing and publishing a successful children’s book. Every imaginable aspect of the children’s publishing world is covered in a clear, concise manner. Reeser is extremely thorough in her how-to guide, as she discusses everything from researching various types of children’s books to securing a suitable agent. Unlike other publishing guides, this book also addresses the actual writing component of the process. For instance, a section on brainstorming is offered, in addition to other significant topics such as characterization, dialogue, and even procrastination. Reeser also provides sample resumes, cover letters and useful lists of web sites and books. Reeser prepares the would-be author for inevitable rejection while simultaneously offering encouragement and strategies for overcoming challenges. Navigating through the maze of publishing is far less daunting with Reeser’s guidance. Aspiring authors will benefit greatly from reading this book and obtain the necessary tools to publish a children’s book.

by
Diane Leone

I found this particular book to be extremely concise and useful. From the very beginning, I was drawn into the author’s simple yet engaging writing style. Leone utilizes a logical flow in the book’s sections and ensures that the reader has a clear understanding of her ultimate purpose. Leone not only offers sage advice on how to open and run an interior design business, but she also emphasizes the personality traits needed to become a successful entrepreneur. The book’s content goes above and beyond redecorating tips and various types of interior design. Someone with absolutely no background in interior design would learn a great deal from this book on everything from marketing to exit plans. Leone’s “A Day in the Life of a Designer” section offers an in-depth, realistic portrayal of an interior designer’s workday. Additionally, information on already established interior designers offers inspiration to readers. Overall, Leone’s book is an extremely helpful and valuable resource to anyone interested in opening and operating his own interior design business.
