Five Book Friday: In Memoriam
(0 comment)
Every year, the booksellers at Powell’s submit their Top Fives: their five favorite books that were released in 2023. It’s a list that, when put together, shows just how varied and interesting the book tastes of Powell’s booksellers are. Last Words

George Carlin

George should have been named a National Treasure, or at least "THE Jester Laureate"! This brilliant man told it like it was and is, stated what we were thinking and making us feel as if we had a voice in the public forum. His absence will be sharply felt, but at least we have his words locked forever on the page. While reading "Last Words", or George's previous books, you can hear his raspy voice delivering each remark, every witticism and comment on the absurdity of the human experience. Be careful where you read this book for you will undoubtedly break into raucous laughter, and when you do, you will be grateful for the genius that was George Carlin - ever the jester, never the fool.

Make Love the Bruce Campbell Way

This guy is a real LooneyTunes! Everyone who loves to laugh should read this book. For anyone who remembers him on "Hercules" & "Xena", I promise you that his writing is even funnier than his acting, even that of his apperances on "News Radio"! Oh, wait, . . . I think that might be Patrick Warburton. I get them mixed up because they both have 'chins that could kill'. Well, anyway, one of those goofy guys wrote this book, and in the final analysis it does not matter which one wrote it because the point is that it is laugh-out-loud hilarious! So, congrats to the author, who ever you are.
