Every year, the booksellers at Powell’s submit their Top Fives: their five favorite books that were released in 2023. It’s a list that, when put together, shows just how varied and interesting the book tastes of Powell’s booksellers are. Mike & The Bike

We purchased my 6 year old his first bicycle and with it we gave him a copy of Mike and The Bike. It was the perfect match! For the first several weeks I had to read Mike and The Bike with him every night and now months later he still drags it out at least 3 or 4 times a week. The story is simple and is written in a sing-song rhyme which is fun to read, the art is done in a cool retro style and the accompanying audio CD is awesome! The music is great and very fun (and listenable) for the entire family. Mike and The Bike is perfect for any child who is entering into the world of bikes. We are so happy that Lance Armstrong does the foreword and my son screams "Go Lance!" whenever he hears his voice on the CD.

My wife and I purchased the original Mike and The Bike storybook for our 6 year old when we got him his first bike. He loved it and it instantly became his favorite book. We found this second book in the series soon after and he loves this one too. It is written in the same sing song fashion but has a lot more text and story line. It comes with a new audio CD that has all new music (some I like more than the original CD) and Lance Armstrong recites his foreword for this one as well. These 2 books are great for early learners. I love the fact that they are about riding bikes and having fun but also get kids excited about reading.
