Revolution in the Head: The Beatles' Records and the Sixties
by
MacDonald, Ian

Revolution in the Head isn't merely the best book ever written on The Beatles (and still so good as to be light years ahead of anything else currently on the shelves), it's one of the best books ever written about music, the sixties and English social history. Even if you have only a passing interest in The Beatles I can't recommend it enough.

Hammer of the Gods Led Zeppelin
by

This book came out after the Zep had crashed. Perfect timing. The band didn't authorize this book but it's still a pretty good read. Plant said he didn't remember many of the actual events depicted as he was having too much fun if you get my meaning. If 1/10th of the events depicted are true then these guys were Hammering the world.
