Trouble with Being a Duke At the Kingsborough Ball
by
Sophie Barnes
Teri Crosby
, September 02, 2013
It began with a dress, a secret, and a desire . . . Isabella Chilcott always hoped for a happily ever after, but she is arranged into a marriage to support her family. With the ever looming proposal of marriage haunting Isabella, she is realizing that her dreams of a romance are waning but maybe just one Ball could help her adjust to the life she will live soon. Just one Ball . . Anthony Hurst is the Duke of Kingsborough and their family has been in morning for his father, his mother has left society but a Ball may brings something fresh and lively into their life. With a past as a rake with a reputation and women hungry like wolves for title, Anthony has almost given up all hope at finding happiness these days. Obligation is heavy on his heart and just the very thought of a Ball is sending shivers down his spine as ladies come calling. When these two characters meet under the cover of masks at the Ball sparks will fly and so may skirts soon after. Isabella is still holding fast to her obligation to marry into a loveless marriage to aid her family, but will Anthony be able to impress upon Isabella his love before it is too late? What I truly enjoyed about this book was the genuine feelings the characters shared between each other even as they tried to deny them. Their positions in life soon came to no importance as their feelings began to take over their daily lives. With a fabulous cast of supporting characters in Isabella's sister, and Anthony's family and friends, we are drawn into this story more with each page turned. Sophie Barnes has brought out a Duke and shared with us a lady in disguise pattered with the classic Cinderella story but filled with all new intrigue, romance and ton.

Born human in the fringes of society, Allison has only been recently turned into a vampire. If you were looking for an evil guy, then The Eternity Cure’s Sarren has you covered. From the ending of The Immortal Rules, Allison had to give up her fight to stay with Ezekiel Cross, the human that she has loved. Eden was the last stronghold of humanity not controlled by vampires, and the price of getting Zeke and his band into Eden was Allison leaving. Allison feels the pain and loss of Zeke as much as she feels the pain of her Hunger ever eating away at her. Wanting the best for Zeke, staying away so that she would not lose control of herself and succumb to the urge to bite Zeke, Allison left what she held dear while turning on the path to finding her sire Kanin who was suffering. The blood ties between vampires have consequences and as Kanin’s pain is transferred to Allison she must find a way to save him, even at the heavy cost of leaving Zeke. New Covington holds a hard place in Allison’s heart, for it was at the fringes of this vampire city that she lived as a human, but now it may hold the secret to the cure that the world so desperately needs. Lying hidden below this city is a secret lab, ripe with a terribly history but holding a possible cure to the latest outbreak of the Red Lung Disease. Allison has to choose her strengths as time shortens for not only the people she cares about, but also the future. by
Kelly Gay
Teri Crosby
, August 29, 2012
Charlie Madigan begins her week optimistic in her abilities of her government and the heads of several groups helping to get her partner Hank released from the custody of his homeland of Fiallan, but as she soon finds out, the net that Fiallan casts upon its people is more deadly and cunning than ever before. Kelly Gay returns to Atlanta and beyond with Shadows Before The Sun, and this series has never been more heartwrenching or hotter than before. With death and destruction all around her Charlie Madigan plays a hard heroine who just wants her life back and she will fight to keep everyone close to her safe. Shadows Before The Sun is a powerhouse of awesomesauce. I cannot begin to explain how thrilled I was with this book even though it carried with it a complicated slew of emotions as Charlie and Hank are pushed to the brink of their survival and their feelings for each other. Charlie is walking a tightrope of obligations and following rules to find and save her partner, even as everyone tells her to give up she pushed forward and uncovers a horrifying history subduing and entire race to the evil plots of a few old mystical hags. Charlie is looing friends she did not even realize that she had as she digs deeper into the workings of the siren city called Fiallan but finding and rescuing Hank is more important than propriety. If voices can seduce, then looks can kill as Charlie is strapped for time in saving her partner Hank from terrible magics in a far off world. A new case is building up back at Atlanta as a death has happened in the Grove and the Druid King Pendaran is looking for answers. Charlie soon has to face off Sachath, the killer of the First Ones, and as magic is building up all around Charlie will she be able to tame all three elements of magic in time to fend off death so that she can have a future in her world? Shadows Before The Sun will delight readers known to this series. Just as the world looks dark it can easily turn bleaker around every turn and only the strong and perseverant can survive the coming storm and their destinies.

Team Human
by
Justine Larbalestier, Sarah Rees Brennan
Teri Crosby
, August 29, 2012
There are Team Humans and then there are Team Vampires in the world and walking the line is almost unjustifiable to Mel. Segregation matters in a state of Maine where Mel lives and to her there are the vampires and then there are the humans and these groups should rarely mix. When her ideas are thrown out as a vampire enrolls in her school and enthralls her best friend with his historic English and proper speech the gauntlets are off as she tries and sways them to stay away from each other. Mel soon finds herself strapped for her morals as she delves into the world of the vampires in her quest to save her friends and uncover some hidden secrets that have been lying closer than she thinks and may have deadly outcomes. Team Human is a riot to read, as the characters are all so fabulous and snarky with great commentaries and outlooks on life. As Mel’s judgment heats up and she finds herself in hot water with her friends as they soon begin to make new life choices without her, Mel must face a few inner struggles on her personal paradigms before she loses people who are the most important to her. Finding love in strange new places is also tricky as Mel desperately clings to her old ideas just as new experiences and strategies are tending to war with her preconceived notions. Will Mel find love in a time of vampires, or will a quick slap of sunlight on her foes solve all her problems? Justine Larbalestier and Sarah Reee Brennan team up to make one of the best YA releases of the Summer in Team Human. Just when you thought vampires were so last season, these two authors erupt in a great plot of hysterics that will delight readers and keep you turning pages while leaving you feeling refreshed and optimistic on the YA genre of more great books to come from both of these authors.

This author has created a riveting read of love and passion for justice and inequality in characters that have little voice or power of their own compared to leaders in their world or the main populous. When your place in society can be destroyed by a stray seen kiss, or damaged by an event in the past, and when obligation reigns down on you tighter than your corset strings how does one endure standing up from propriety and fighting for the right things even as they could be destroying you.

Under Suspicion

Sophie Lawson has been having a hard time at her job in the Underworld, what with the Vampires taking over, her boss missing, and staff cuts but when her boss does not believe there is a hunt on paranormals Sophie takes care of her own. Being not quite human, and yet not quite paranormal has left her out of many social circles and has lost her Alex her past boyfriend. Alone and yet with her Guardian Will Sophie starts to take on the night and investigate what is going wrong in the Underworld while at the same time dodging bullets and saving her roommates. Under Suspicion came off as a stronger read than the last UDA novel, I was glad to see Sophie take action and investigate her murdered clients while also take some romance under her belt. With Sophie attracted to both local Will and Alex who spends the novel off working, Sophie finally gets some action, while also coming to grips with the unavailability of Alex. Tired of being passed off at work, Sophie follows leads into the murders of citizens of the Underworld while also being hunted herself. Where the facts start to lead Sophie can turn dangerous to her health around every turn, and some great accompanying characters save or break her day. Readers will delight in some of the antics of supporting characters in the series and see a few new ones, while the snarky commentary and bunny slippers will keep up from what was in the previous books. I find myself always questioning the covers of this series because while I love the cover art itself, I do not find any connection to Sophie herself through them but in Under Suspicion we learn from Sophie herself that this would be her ideal model of what she wants to look like in: "In my imagination I am Sophie Lawson, Badass Investigator, Paranormal Specialist. I wear black leather like a second skin; I wield a sexy jeweled sword; I have the kind of hair that files in gorgeous wisps over my naked, carved shoulders." (ARC pg 177) So with that in mind I can have compassion for the covers because really would we not many times imagine ourselves as this awesome heroine and look fabulous? when really reality is not as kind to oneself in skintight leather and well, swords are pretty pricey. So while I agree with Sophie, our imagined selves are quite full of badassery all too often. Sophie does follow her leads and take the reins in saving not only her Underworld, but also some of her friends. The ending was completely awesome and now I cannot wait to see what comes in the next installments of the Underworld Detective Agency Series.

What really struck me as something in the Thief’s Covenant was the span of time portrayed in the story. Like a jar of marbles, pieces of Adrienne Satti's life slowly come into focus for the reader between present day chapters. As readers move through the book so much is built up upon the character's story and histories together that one cannot be but amazing at the fluid progression and perfectly time divulging of the past inherit in TC. Adrienne Satti is a survivor. From childhood brought adult, Adrienne has suffered at the hands of fellow man and t much break she is trying to survive all of her adventures as they twist and turn beneath her feet. The Thief's Covenant is a most amazing story of heartbreak and triumph, while surround by luscious world building. The entire book takes place behind the walls of a city named Davillon, and through the eyes of Adrienne the inner workings of the people are revealed. From the rich houses and past the fancy parties to the retch covered streets and the marketplaces Ari Marmell has produced Davillon for readers. Rich in description and details TC has taken on a mantel of fantasy so well that it was hard to put down. With a strong group of characters that have a fantastic voice throughout the story I just did not want to leave their heads. Adrienne Satti keeps sing dealt the low hands in life, but as she struggles to stay alive and also to find it in herself to move on and seek absolution in her faults is fresh. Adrienne or Widdershins trusts little of the world and questions just another everything. With a string attention to detail this character can move stealthily through a world of heavy thievery competitions and a lengthy set of rules. Trying to keep away from the jail cells and the assassins, Adrienne struggles to keep herself together but also take on dangerous new challenges. With several supporting character's making appearance throughout the story readers will feel compassion, delight, and heartache alongside the characters as they struggle to right wrongs setting place in their city. Readers will delight in this new fresh release that keeps them at the edge of their seats airing for more. With more nicknames than your average person Widdershins will capture readers with her voice and wit while she runs from all sides of the laws. The Thief's Covenant is a new series that is not to be missed.

Selection 01 Selection

Kiera Cass

, April 25, 2012
While unsure of this title and its content, I was utterly blown away by The Selection from Kiera Cass. With a country steeped in unrest and rival local groups, The Selection gives us a timeless tale of girl meets prince. In this case one girl is selected from certain areas in her country to be voted out Bachelor style until one girl is selection to become princess and in her own time Queen. The Selection opens up to our main character America Singer who has a secret love in a lower class level from her own class of Artist in a caste filled new country. Upon the receipt of a letter from the kingdom America joins into becoming part of the very selection that she despises so that her own family can receive money from her participation to purchase foods and goods they so disparately need. With the promise of keeping some of her own earned income in the family, America soon expresses her love and intentions to this boy she loves, only for her attentions to be turned down and he leaves her. Lost and torn America moves into the castle and into the realization that this Selection may become more than she bargained for. With a Prince who may be more than a pretty face and a host of attacks on the castle, America soon finds strength not only in herself, but also in what is worth fighting for. Kiera Cass has created an amazing story that will captivate readers and give us all that feeling of being Selected or being a diamond in the rough. With a great pair of characters in America and Prince Maxon we soon find ourselves warming up to their light banter that soon kindles into something more while at the same time realizing that life outside the castle walls may perchance be hiding something more in terms of rebellion. The Selection is a riveting new read that will grip readers and keep them at the edge of their seats eager for more.

Unraveling 01

Elizabeth Norris

Unraveling is a devastatingly beautiful novel. What happens when the one thing you find yourself loving could be the source of your own destruction? Elizabeth Norris has painted a frightening future for readers where worlds are collapsing and love is only a life away. In Unraveling readers may find themselves debating how can somewhat love the very thing or someone that may ultimately destroy them. Unraveling is a story woven of deep loss and a growing love that contends with the characters' trying to solve each of their own mysteries and resolve things from their pasts that haunt them. Our main character is Janelle Tenner and she is one bright and amazing character with a deep love of helping, a smart wit and a cunning mind. Janelle's father works cases in the FBI, cooks randomly and has a love for the X-Files TV series and when his latest case comes home with him there are devastating consequences for everyone. As Janelle's story developed through the story we find a teen who has been putting her all into creating a good life and home for family and especially her brother, as her parents are falling apart. Janelle's mother suffers from being bi-polar and contributes little to the family while her father's work keeps him busy and he copes with his own responsibilities and stresses by longer hours and focusing on his cases. Janelle struggles with being a teen in a troubling house by being close friends with her neighbor Alex, who is a fabulous supporting character with his own complex family life. Alex is a great character that adds support to the story, but his faith in Janelle is soon put to question when events change that could impact their whole world. The story soon opens up and adds another amazing character in Ben, who is like a mysterious ugly duckling, something like a game changer in the story that will turn all of the character's mind and whole world upside down. What was so epic in Unraveling is the tragic undertone throughout the whole story, there are catastrophic losses all get in life that have an array of impact. From finding love soon comes loss, and a struggle to create normalcy from a loss of childhood comes the tiers struggle to protect. Among other themes inherit in the story really the character's voice compels the novel into something lyrically amazing. You just don't want to put this story down. Unraveling is about that, everything unraveling where character's lives are intertwining and at the same time so is the fabric of their universe. When you want something so much worlds collide right, but the truth may be more real than anyone ever imagined and the consequences are hitting closest to home than anticipated. With a strong female lead in a building dystopian storyline Unraveling releases a powerhouse in its ability to have several plots developing at the same time and connecting them all at the right places and at the right times to really pack a punch as they develop. This is one release that turned into a great story that I had not expected. Unraveling is not to be missed as a release this year because it has all of these fabulous elements that will surprise readers as a thrilling suspenseful YA debut.

Wicked as They Come
by
Delilah S Dawson
Teri Crosby
, April 06, 2012
Within a few pages of reading Wicked as They Come I was hooked. The story opens up with a woman named Tish Everett who has just come out of a bad relationship that she realized was all a sham, and now she is getting her life back together. Tish is our central heroine in the story and she is tired of being a doormat. Tish works hard, takes care of people as a nurse and she is still missing something in life. What Tish soon finds will turn her future around into something else entirely. While driving past one the home of a deceased patient, Tish walks into an estate sale and comes out into a whole alternate reality filled with bloodthirsty bunnies and traitorous carnies. It wasn’t that simple, there was no magic door to take Tish away, there was no mirror, all Tish had to do was fall asleep. After taking a tarnished locket from the sale and trying to clean it, Tish pushed a ruby in the necklace and is soon sprayed with bloody red liquid which opened up to a tiny portrait of a dark and beautiful man. With thoughts of this mysterious stranger, Tish falls asleep only to wake up naked on a slab of rock. While that may appeal to some, Tish is a bit more reserved then most so when out comes that dark stranger from her locket Tish assumes she is still dreaming. What she finds herself in is not a dream but another world, like ours but in a more steampunk advanced history and also filled with bloodthirsty entities. People of the Blud they are, but this also encompasses animals, once bitten the hunger for flesh and blood turns all living things into creatures of Blud and humans are a rare treat. With strict rules governing Bludmen and Bludwomen this group of people is ostracized for their very nature almost to the point of starvation and degradation. Into the world of Sang readers will follow Tish, or here Letitia, and the Bludman Ciminy Stain on a whole host of perilous adventures that will give Letitia the ability to choose her future whether in the arms of the Blud or in the present with her grandmother. In Sang there are those of the Blud, the humans, and then there are the Strangers. The significance of the Strangers in the world of Sang is that the Strangers are humans, but sometime in the crossing they contain special powers or abilities or knowledge. These Strangers are redefining the world of Sang and causing complications for its inhabitants. Where we sleep in one world, in another we can reap destruction or never wake up. Criminy Stain is a central character in the novel alongside Letitia in Wicked As They Come and his talents and voice in the story and the evolution of the book were just amazing. WCTC is a Steampunk Historical Romance where clockworks can protect you and krakens attack subs all the while you can strap on a corset and tempt the craftiest of Bludmen. Criminy releases the wanton element in the story, because that locket that brought Letitita into Sang was basically his last draw to bring his heart, his love to him. See Criminy is a romantic and after a nasty breakup he sent for a piece of himself through dark magic to being the woman who would spend his life with to whom, except what he found was a spirited woman who is juggling her realities and keeps him a hand span away. With some great banter and dialog readers will enjoy Criminy throughout the story and quite possibly fall for him themselves. Surrounded by carnies, those of the Blud and a fantastic caravan, Criminy will stop at nothing to not only protect his people but also try and catch Letititia’s affections. With danger following both characters and future looking none too bright for either, Letitia and Criminy must find strength in themselves and each other to pass the coming storm. Dawson has brought to life a great pair of characters and has created an intriguing world that while close to our own, is altogether different and full of surprises. With a whole host of adventures and a thrilling perilous journey to save themselves and a whole world of people, Criminy and Letitia will bring readers into a new world filled with an all original romance in a time of Blud and bedpans.

Embrace 01 Embrace
by
Jessica Shirvington
Teri Crosby
, March 30, 2012
Angels have wings, they are good but there are some that are fallen and they are bad. Some Angels are blood thirsty, and other invisible or others are smoking hot. These are some truths about angels that we would love to hold self evident, but sometimes we may find in the world that some held beliefs are false and everything we thought we knew is only held up by interpretation or assumption. Embrace takes the angel myth and pushes that into its own elements with a middle ground that will captivate readers into the plight on one girl, named Violet Eden. Violet is turning 17 and while that may be an occasion for most teens, for Violet is a reminder that her birth was also her mother’s death and that soon a deadly secret will be opening up her world to greater things than she ever imagined in only a few unknown hours. Violet only wanted a low key birthday but what she receives at 17 is a late night dream vision of angel telling her she has a choice in this world, yet also not informing her of what it was all about. Soon Violet feels betrayed by the closest person in her life, a boy named Lincoln, who has hidden a monumental truth from her. Violet’s world soon turns upside down and everything she thought she felt in life is going to turn upside down, and leave her feeling lost and a little alone in one of her greatest times of need. Jessica Shirvington has taken some fantastical elements and twisted the histories of celestial beings and their fallen counterparts into a whole new reality that will captivate readers. While I am not so thrilled with the love triangle aspect in many books today I have to say that I am still rooting for the fallen angel Phoenix. I loved Phoenix’s character and even though, like an alpha male he betrayed Violet and yet still has a yearning for her, I enjoyed his character and what strength it imparted into the character’s story. While Lincoln is another love of Violet’s life, I enjoyed the special abilities Phoenix gave into Violet and his voice and story in the book. Some readers enjoy the main love of the heroine, but I find that there is a great truth and mystery into what the broken characters add to the book while they are selfish but also hungering for a greater good other than their own damaging results. I hope to see more of Phoenix in Enticed.

As the knowledge of her astute skills pass through the warring kingdom, McKenzie's status as a rare Shadow Reader are getting around and as the opposing factions square off against each other McKenzie and her abilities will be coveted by all. With a pair of leading male characters, McKenzie has to find the truth that she believes in herself and what she believes is worth fighting for because there is are fae on both sides of the fight that she has feelings for. Will their want of her talents override McKenzie's safety, or will McKenzie's power turn the tides in the civil war among the fae. Pale Demon left us with a slightly damaged Rachel having been through hell and back keeping the world together from demons, when the real world was at the same time slamming her for her heritage and abilities. APB shows us a side of Rachel that is frightened of the world coming down around her with the release of her designation as a demon and even getting her driver's license is brings about trouble. Money woes are down, but home woes are up and soon to be getting harder to handle as her pack Alpha David is waiting for Rachel to man up and get her pack tattoo while also putting her under bodyguard security since demons are not so welcome above ground as Rachel soon finds out. When authorities come looking for help and to lay blame, Rachel soon finds herself in the middle of not only an agency war, but a growing threat to all supernaturals from an extremist group bent on eradicating anything less than human. Trent makes appearances that are just plain cozy and smoking hot, so the tension is building there and it is great for Rachel to experience a few slices of cherry pie happiness. Ivy strives to keep Rachel alive with all of the danger and deceit while also falling for Glenn and then finding herself in trouble with vamps and her liaisons. A Perfect Blood was just that, freaking perfect for me. I loved that there were many times tidied up in the book while keeping up with plot twist and action that are so inherit in the Hallows series. The book was fast past and action packed keeping me on the edge of the page. As the story progressed throughout the book and the dangers piled up I thoroughly enjoyed the snark and wit in the character exchanges

Under the Never Sky 01

Veronica Rossi
Teri Crosby
, January 04, 2012
Under The Never Sky (UTNS) was such an amazing story! With one of the first released of the new year that I read and loved I was totally swept away in this futurist tale of love and loss. Veronica Rossi has created an unbelievable powerhouse in her pair of characters that will get readers lost in the pages. Aria just wanted to talk to her mom, and then her world ended. Aria lives in one of a series of self contained PODS that humans created to life in after they destroyed their world. While living in this sterile and controlled world Aria knew nothing of how her future would be cast, and cast she was, right out of the POD and into the open Death Shop land of the Savages. Peregrine is a Blood Lord tribe leader's brother who wants to save his people and his nephew. As the Aether churns in the sky Perry realizes that his future is away from his brother's lands just after all he loves is taken away in the form of his brother's son by the POD hovercraft. What will the meaning of this POD people intervention be to the future of Perry and his people. Once Perry and Aria meet up in the deadly wasteland that is the future, their lives change forever as the Aether flows under the never sky and a breath of the world never can take on a whole new meaning into the lives of two people as they struggle to survive and save each other. Rossi paired these two characters together into a world torn apart and into a civilization on the brink of destroying itself yet again. While slow to start UTNS will grasp readers as this pair fight for what is right and true and their songs will be sung on the winds of Aether. A whole new cast in a whole new world of possibilities.

Lunar Chronicles 01 Cinder
by
Marissa Meyer
Teri Crosby
, January 03, 2012
Cyborg Cinderella. I think that it was the concept of an altered twist on the Cinderella tale that really made me yearn for this release as much as I did, and Marissa Meyer fulfilled all of my fantasy dreams. Castle on Earth, yes! How about a evil empire on the Moon that is hellbent on taking over ruling Earth by offing a huge portion of the population so evil Queen can marry hot prince who is crushing on said cyborg Cinderella?! OH yeah! Cinder is a story about a girl named Cinder who lives with the evil stepmother in New Bejing surviving by hiding out in her workshop and selling parts and repairs in the city market. We open up to Cinder revealing to readers that she is a cyborg, part human-part machine, living in a futuristic world that wants nothing to do with cyborgs (constant discrimination) and yet they are also looking to sell off a cyborg to two into research for a cure to end a crippling disease rippling through the population. Cinder is soon asked to repair a service machine to the one and only horribly attractive, conflicted and kind Prince Kai. Is this book just about a relationship, nope, it is about the harsh reality of interplanetary conflict, death and disease, machine repair, medical practices, and personal leg repair. The character interactions between Kai and Cinder are fabulously written and intertwined in the plot throughout the story but really what caught me was Cinder. This amazing young woman lives a harsh life but also she carries within her a spark to greatness. We soon find in these pages a complicated past and a harrowing future for this young heroine in a world out to shun her. Marissa Meyer has taken an old tale and fashioned it into a new beautiful work that will captivate readers and keep them anticipating until the very last page.

Drink Deep

At the end of Hard Bitten we were all in tears, but Drink Deep packed a powerhouse of awesomesauce. When the going gets tough, Merit takes it and keeps going. She fights for what is right in the world, while all the wrongs are piling up. While still grieving for the loss of Master, Partner, and love Ethan, Merit has to rise above her immediate grief as all hell breaks apart in the natural world. As the rivers turn black, the skies burn, and the earth turns the supernatural community is blamed and Cadogan House is the main target of the human, and media clash. Merit has to save her community, her house, her life, and her friends all in Drink Deep and while it all hurts, Merit keeps kicking arse. I loved Drink Deep. I could not put it down. DD tied all of the elements from the series and revealed new things about these so well loved characters. Through every twist and every turn we all wanted to be there for Merit, and as it wall was falling apart we can only hope that it gets better. Will Ethan be a memory, or something more to Merit. Now that the world is in turmoil, what will happen with Jonah and the Red Guard, plus what will the repercussions be from the GP towards Merit and Cadogan house? How will Merit rise above all that she has lost and will loose in the future? Drink Deep will astound readers with its rich story line and the perseverance and compassion of the characters within this series. The Chicagoland Vampire series will keep readers on the edge of their seats and awaiting the next book in hand, it is just that good!

Drink, Slay, Love

Sarah Beth Durst

, November 02, 2011
DSL is one of my favorite snarky new releases this year. I have to say that Sarah Beth Durst out did herself on this was. I declare DSL the awesomesauce of it's release month. We open up from the view point of a young vampire named Pearl, and she is seriously the best little vamp out there right now because you just have to love her witty dialog. She is with her boyfriend Jadrien hitting he town so a quick bite to eat. While munching behind a restaurant pearl get staked through the chest by none other than the pearly horn of a unicorn and soon Pearl's whole life, or that there of, will be turned upside down. Discovering her ability to see sun for the first time, since vampires burn up from exposure in this rendition, her parents send her to high school to infiltrate the town to find kids that a coming host of vampires can feed off of. Soon it all gets complicated. This story has it all, a girl growing into her changing body, her changing status in her community and in her family. Pearl's survival is at stake, and there us danger everywhere. Toss in a love triangle, romance, danger, and suspense and you have a great book or a great series in the making. The boys in this novel are to die for. The ladies picked up some arse kicking boots and are ready to get the party started. Read Drink,Slay,Love and have a good time. It is full of fun.

The Scorpio Races

, November 02, 2011
Scorpio Races is the newest release from acclaimed author Maggie Steifvater, author of the Wolves of Mercy Falls series. The rich detail and passionate characters that Maggie brought to her wolves crosses into this latest release that asks is the question " how far would you go for what you love?" In Thisby the tides are turning and with the coming of November brings in the entry of the capaill uisce, a fearsome type of man eating water horse. The Scorpio Race itself has been a time honored tradition for the men of the island, and with the coming of the capaill uisce begins the beginning of the bloodletting. The savage water horses eat their way through island and rider as they yearn for the sea and the men and boys yearn for the title of winner for the races of the year. With dangerous training and jockeying for places the riders have someone new in their midst, a girl named Puck with a home to save. Scorpio Races brings in amazing characters who are looking for a future with their small island while all feeling the call or the chains of the sea. SR is breathtaking to read, I ate up the pages and could not put it down. It's story enthralled me as a reader. It was just incredible. Growing up is hard enough but our characters have this huge responsibility to save themselves, their home, their family, their way of life. The world building was spectacular, you could almost feel the pull of the sea in it's pages. Maggie S has created a masterpiece of possibilities in the Scorpio Races.

Matched 02 Crossed
by
Ally Condie
Teri Crosby
, November 02, 2011
Ally Condie's sequel to Matched, Crossed brings back our two central character's Ky and Cassia. Separated from each other and sent to distant parts of the Outer Provinces, Ky and Cassia struggle to survive and also keep hope alive in getting back together. Cassia is in a work camp when she takes the ultimate risk jumping into a ship sending Abberations into a new remote Province. Taking this chance Cassia hopes to get closer to Ky and also closer to discovering more about the Rising. Ky on the other hand is trying to survive through all of the battles taking place as the Society keeps depositing Abberations on old farming lands to keep an illusion of current residence. What really captured me in Crossed is how all of the characters paths are crossing and also at the same time dividing from other. Xander only has a few parts in the story but as he is also a vital character and we soon find he also has a significant secret that is being revealed. Ky reveals his past as well as his fears in the future which begin to tear Cassia's ideas apart and Cassia soon finds herself torn between not only the two boys but also what she finds out in her famous past and also in what she wants for her future. What can the characters believe in when at times they cannot believe in each other. Will they have the strength to overcome their fears and be able to fight for their futures. What is the Rising promising? And what is the Society really doing to it's Citizens. Crossed is so much more of a fabulous read than I expected. As the story shifts and expands to more than just a tale of love, we find ourselves swept in to a story of a live divided and a place where war is not only within ourselves and our ideals and prior beliefs but also with each other. There are so many things revealed about the world of the Matched Trilogy in Crossed so with the next book we should be stunned and expecting many surprises. This series continues to astound me and explore many themes that I find exceptionally interesting.

As I Wake
by
Elizabeth Scott
Teri Crosby
, November 02, 2011
As I Wake is an amazing dystopian set between worlds of here and a future rife with authority and segregation. A girl named Ava wakes up in a room in a hospital with a woman who says she is her mother. Ava remembers nothing, but she soon finds she has forgotten everything, or maybe it was all taken away. Returning to school instead of being experimented on in a research facility Ava soon finds herself remembering ghosts of her past, and yet finding them in these people of the present. It is like a futuristic parallel universe that is meeting in Ava's mind as she soon finds she has no idea where she is or what has or is becoming of her. As memories find their way into her present state, Ava soon realizes she has lost so much more than anyone bargained for, yet she soon also finds that she holds a great wealth in her mind that is coming back to her. When her past intertwines more with her present, Ava soon finds many people she thought she lost coming and finding her, and yet danger is ever present. What really captured me in As I Wake was the story itself, what happens when we find ourselves lost and forgotten, but soon realize that there is something much larger than us going around and we are but a small but vital part is a vast scheme of things. As Ava's character remembers another world she was in I love the great world building and plotting that went into the other place. When the people from her previous life intersect in her present, it is great the way they are vague in their past but soon discovering so much in the present. Elizabeth Scott has created a rich and twisting story that will captivate readers and keep them on the edge of their seat as the events in As I Wake unfold.

Leigh Fallon has created the awesomesauce in her debut release of Carrier of the Mark. The book starts off with introducing our main character Megan who has just moved to Ireland because her father's work was assigned there. Megan moves around often so she normally keeps a low profile and tried to make few attachments in her new places of residence, but this time it is different. Megan's father is talking about staying, Megan is making friends, and she is discovering a whole new future of possibilities in store for her. With in her first week at school Megan feels intensely drawn to the dark and quiet boy at school, Adam DeRÍs, a lad normally aloof to girls, Adam soon finds himself also drawn to Megan and together they both soon realize that greater things are happening for bother good and bad. Megan soon finds out that there are greater secrets in the world, and as she finds herself in the middle of a hidden magic and in the middle of a dangerous romance she feels torn and lost, everywhere except in Adam's arms. Carrier of the Mark was a great book rich in detail and description. I loved the characters and their interactions, top it with a great plot and story progression and I got carried away this this amazing new read.

When is the world out of your control. How can a destiny you have never know of matter. When is the time to choose too late? A Beautiful Dark was a dark riveting read. Coming into its pages I had no idea what I was getting into. But it was breathtakingly amazing. The story opens up to an orphaned girl names Skye who lives with her back-trails traveling aunt, but it turns into so much more. With a past that is quickly unraveling before her at the cusp of her seventeenth birthday and catastrophic abilities manifesting themselves, Skye finds herself torn between what she remembers and what is becoming inside her. With the introduction of two secretive boys coming into her life with their own agendas and abilities, Skye soon finds that the ski slopes are not the only place she can loose herself into. A Beautiful Dark was an amazing read that had the pages unfolding into hours in my hands. I could not put this one down, the character's and their plight entrapped me and flew beyond my wildest expectations in this book. A Beautiful Dark was just that, beautiful. One of the most amazing upcoming releases that I am awaiting in print this year.

Where Demons Fear to Tread Company of Angels 01
by

, September 06, 2011
Stephanie Chong has created a fabulous new world where Angels and Demons rarely mix, but both have their purposes on Earth. When Serena St. Clair gets into a car accident she soon finds herself turned angel and sent on assignment to save a rockstar. What she does not expect is to be sent into the den of one of the most powerful Demons, while at the same time finding herself soon falling in love and about to fall herself if she is not careful. Julian Ascher is exactly the demon to find himself one the opposite end of that Angel, finding himself falling for Serena while at the same time trying to keep her from his entire race. The question soon leads to what can become of Angels and Demons, and who truly needs to be saved. I loved the characters and their snarky and yet shy attitudes. Ascher was a great character and as he developed in the story I loved him more. Serena starts off the book young and innocent full of ideals, but soon finds out that the path to salvation is trickier and more muddied than clear, while she soon also finds her own strengths and uses them to front her own agenda. Where Demons Fear to Tread is a great beginning to an upcoming series not to be missed.

Hour of Dust & Ashes
by
Kelly Gay
Teri Crosby
, September 06, 2011
Kelly Gay has created an amazing heroine with Charlie Madigan. Let me say what i love most about Charlie's character is that she feels very real as you read. There are not a lot of single mother heroines who actually talk about their kids in books, and Gay does that very well blending parenting and family into her books. I also love that Charlie gets tired, she fails occasionally in her exploits and she encounters loss, while at the same time arising from these low personal times of herself and then picking to to kicking some arse and getting retribution. Sometimes dealing with life takes some spongebob panties, and dirty torn clothes. Add in some dirt and near death drowning, king murder, creepy black swirly death mist, and dino sized lizards and you have a fantasmic story. The Hour of Dust and Shadows was an engrossing read that I did not want to put down. The pages flew through my fingers and the characters really caught my attention. As the plot twisted and problems arose, Charlie dealt her hand in the mix and kept on pushing for a happy ending. When Hanks character takes a turn, ohh I love Hank-where is a Siren when I need one, Charlie will not let the ending of this book go. I cannot wait to read more from Charlie and everyone in the book. The Hour of Dust and Shadows was a powerhouse of a read. The plot was fast, thick and catching, and the characters were awesome. If you have missed the Charlie Madigan series, go pick it up, because it is a real treat to read. What started off with a Better Part of Darkness, and then moved into The Darkest Edge of Dawn, swings us into The Hour. Kelly Gay has created a fantastical new future filled with everything that goes bump in the night, while slipping in some luscious men and challenging us with some dangerous women.

Bloodlines 01
by
Richelle Mead

, September 01, 2011
I am always impressed with Rachel Meads books and especially the depth in her characters. Bloodlines is another chapter in the Vampire Academy. We return to all of our favorite characters and get to know a few more a lot better. Sydney shines as the main character in bloodlines. The Alchemists have come to her home to bequest her sister Zoe to go on an assignment, but to protect her sister Sydney takes the job. The Alchemists are still unsure to trust Sydney and she is always under the shadow of fear they will come and reeducate her. What I love with Mead's book is they tie together all of these forces of characters together into an amazing action packed, heart wrenching unfolding plot that is SO hard to put down. I ate this book up. I love Adrian's character and he was even more amazing here, but really Sydney outshines them all. While not a big character in the Vampire Academy series itself, I began to love Sydney in the last two books. Sydney really wants to do her job, and do it right. She has a great moral conscience and asks herself the reason why she is doing things a lot. She has this strong mind, and this amazing heart. Sydney takes the stage in Bloodlines when she tried to keep Jill Dragomir alive and safe after a previous attack on her life. The Alchemists and the Royalty secret Jill of to an undisclosed place to stay safe and alive since Jill is needed to keep reigning Queen Lissa on the throne. The opposition is coming, and who will come out on top? Bloodlines is not only the PERFECT title of this book, but the plot was delicious. We had some love, some angst, some retribution, some great witty dialog. Once you pick up Bloodlines, expect nothing less than finishing it since it will be hard to put down.

Near Witch

The story that is sung by the kids in town, the haunting tale of the Near Witch is coming soon to be true in the small town of Near. When a stranger is spotted on the moor, and children begin disappearing, will the true culprit be closer to home than they realize? There was much campaigning online about the awesomesauce that was the Near Witch. There have been fabulous trailers and songs made for it, but I did not see it;s amazingness until I too escaped into the Moors. The Near Witch is a tale of love, of family, and about a town. A town has fears, it has precautions, it has secrets and soon as the story culminates we see the accusations fly amongst the townspeople and their prejudice as children are disappearing in the eve and their distrust of witches escalates. Who will save these children? Are they still alive? The characters of the novel were absolutely amazing and breathtaking. I loved Cole, can i have him as my Book Boyfriend. With a terrible past Cole arrives at the village of Near in the night and is spotted by townsfolk but also by Lexi. Lexi lives at the edge of the Moor and the town has taken much from her family, so as the fingers point to Cole for the missing kids, Lexi takes it upon herself to redeem him, and to save her sister. Lexi herself is a strong, willed amazing heroine. She does not give up her fights, and neither does she cower. Lexi is a fabulous character that really gives this strength to the story and is the heart of the tale with her love, acceptance, and her perseverance. Lexi and Cole's tale is heartbreaking as well as breathtaking. The Near Witch is an amazing debit from Victoria Schwab that will have you on the edge of you seat, and melting into a puddle.

I loved the tale of Two Moon Princess. It carried with is all of the great class fantasy elements that I loved so much much in the genre. We have the great growing heroine who needs to make an epic choice and a family that is divided between worlds. We get the element of mystery and of finding oneself midst change and challenge. The characters were great to read about and I loved the description in the book. I passed on my ereader to my tween daughter and she absolutely loved Two moon Princess. Andrea's strong character with her fierce will was a great character for this book and how she dealt with the challenges of finding out her family's secret while saving John in the process. I loved the time-space travel elements in the book also. This is a great read for any age

Shadowcry

, July 21, 2011
Shadowcry is an amazingly fresh new read that will be released this year by author Jenna Burtenshaw. What I find so amazing in this book is that the concept of the storyline is like none other that I have read yet this year, and the characters are so secretive and yet so amazing. Shadowcry takes us into a future that is dark and riddled with power and corruption. The populous is in a state of repressed fear from the tyranny of the capitol city. Sending teams of wardens out to collect workers from the main population the city basically creates a constant flow of slavery while all the time "harvesting" the select few of the Skilled, people with Talent, hidden among them. The Skilled are people with special inborn talents that the leaders of the cities want to use and produce as weapons towards their constant wars with each other. The story centers around our main character, Kate Winters, and the abrupt introduction to her talent during a harvesting that changes her world forever. We are introduced to several amazing characters throughout the story as Kate finds her way through her past and into her growing powers and their implications in the use towards the wardens' plans. One of the secondary characters that I was fascinated with was Silas Dane. Carrying a heavy curse brought about from a lifetime of suffering and slavey and magical testing Silas really carried the story for me. His dialog, and personal motive justification, and application was just a great and integral part to the story. I loved Silas as a character and with the way he worked, it really added that extra element that made the book so much more impactful for me to read. If you are looking for a book that carries many amazing elements and that has a spectacular plot with many twists and turns, then Shadowcry will be a fantastic read. Dystopian intrigue and action, yep. A hint of romance, gotcha. But most of all if you are looking for something that carries many of the elements in YA and then a lot more and a variety of greatness, then I encourage you to pick up Shadowcry. You will not be disappointed.

Sirensong is the Third book in the Faeriewalker series by Jenna Black. At first we got a glimmer, then a shadow and now we find song in this amazing series. I fell in love with Glimmerglass and its characters have developed so well throughout these three books. In Sirensong we find Dana marked by the Erlking and trying to move on with her life even we there are so many oppositions lining up. The life of a Faeriewalker, a few in kind person who can move themselves and objects between our world and Faery are rare, but it seems everyone wants a walker in their pocket to continue their evil plans. Dana is in a new conundrum: she has to travel to the Seelie court and be introduced to the Queen, and with her luck and enemies anything can happen. With so many forces against Dana, what is a girl to do with everything that is piling up? Dana still has to hold back due to the bargain with the Erlking and its effects on her relationship with Ethan, and then her family troubles with her mother and her fathers status, Dana has a it in store for her in Sirensong. Jenna Black builds an amazing world and reality for the characters in the Faeriewalker series. I live the inner dialog of Dana, and the struggles she has faced. With so much power and yet such a personal moral code, Dana makes a beautiful, and strong character. Relationships can be made or broken when Dana's secrets become exposed and her friends are have to figure out what to do with Dana's powers and her connections. Sirensong was an amazingly well written read that was composed of a great set of characters and fantastical world. Get lost in the pages and take a walk with the Faeriewalker.

Ohh Philippa I love your brain! The characters in Phoenix were so complex in ways and so awesome. I loved the detailed steampunk and the world building. As the book progressed I could not put it down. I ate up the pages in one whole long night..er..morning leaving the kids to fend with toaster waffles and juicy juicy. Steampunk is such an interesting genre for me. I love the detailed description and of course the clothing! While I personally would probably not wear it I love the rich attire and then there is the dialog. The dialog in steampunk has all of these new words to me, wiki has my homepage. The aspect that I loved most from Phoenix Rising was the fact that Eliza totally took the scene, the initiative and the action in the book. The male character Brooks, was more reserved and not as strong willed as most male characters in steampunk, so I do love my ladies who are worth their salt in life and disturbance. Need some steam?! Get a Phoenix.

Now the first thing you see is this awesome cover, no really it is something to behold and what I love most is that is really ties into the story. For you fellow having read this, this reminds you of Taylor right?! Now there was also some great moments in this book and I love all of the Corporations comments throughout the book as well as the Teen Dream applications put into the book. It was such a snarky riot. I ordered a copy for my stepdaughter after having only read 20 pages, it was so full of awesome. There are only a few great books that catch you that fast in loving it and then spreading that love around. These Texas authors really know how to write epic good reads. Basically you take a plane load of beauty pageant teens that are now participating on the final league of the Miss Teen Dream Pageant, and then you crash their plane on an island , make a cover up and call them all lost at sea, and have them fend for themselves. Oh my gosh the dialog is fraking fabulous and then all of the comments for the Corporations products, placements, and tv shows really ices the cake in the awesomesauce. If you are looking for good times with bonus snark and snack slaying, then Beauty Queens will delight your weekend. I know it sure made mine was more enjoyable.

SPECTYR was amazing to read. It picked up right after GEIST had left off and Sorcha and Merrick soon find themselves coming into a horrible vision as well as an ancient battle. SPECTYR will test the limits of all of their bonds, and our three characters: Sorcha, Merrick, and Raed will struggle within theirs pasts and their futures. Philippa Ballantine has created another masterpiece in this Second Book of the Order. We find out more about our characters while at the same time read of their inner battles of their relationships towards the future. Sorcha is haunted by a visions she cannot deny while trying to refrain from her passions for Raed. Raed struggles within himself, his feelings, his duty and his Rossin. Merrick soon finds himself open to the Otherside and transported far away, separated from Sorcha and sent into his own new quest. SPECTYR is about choices and the future. It is of protection at what cost and suffering, inner and worldy. The world building in SPECTYR as well as the history lessons of it in the book were perfectly woven together. There was no feeling of too much backstory or lengthy explainations, only a sense of wonder as Ballantine created this fantastical world full of complications and many many oppositions. I loved the book, and cannot wait to see what else is in store for these characters. The ending left me wanting oh so much more, with a promise of an amazing book to come.

I love Hounded. No seriously it is fantastic. Inside this book is a progressing storyline that leave you never a dull minute, is a masterpiece. There is enough fabulous snark that you could stir it with a stick, and moody plotting characters that pop in and out of the story all of the time. Poor Atticus (no wealthy kick arse really) just wants some down time after two thousand years to sit back, brew at his tea shop, sell at his bookshop and hunt with his wolfhound. Is that too much for a guy to ask for, it might be when you are packing a hot sword lifted from a bygone war. Hounded will keep you reading and enthralled in its characters. I am so happy that a book per month with be released so there is no year wait between books. Want a great new fresh read that packs a punch, then get Hounded and you wont be left unsatisfied.

Swept Off Her Feet takes us into the world of unKilted men and antiques. Hester Browne weaves of an amazing story about a woman who wants to keep her job and is sent off to a castle to hit the antique pay dirt but finds herself tossed in a reel of desire. What Evie needs is to stop feeling the life through the antiques she buys, and find something more than the clutter of her home, but into the arms of someone special. Left to her own devices Evie just may get lost in the merchandise she buys for her employer in the antique trade, but she soon is set into a wild adventure inside of a historic castle in Scotland. What Evie doesn't realize is love is closer than she thinks, and that learning Scottish Reels to replace her sister in a dance, can bring her closer to what she has been wanting for so long. Browne uses fantastic description to make us fall in love with her characters. You can almost feel the old wood through the pages, along with the pounding of feet in the dances. The main, and supporting characters were fabulous. Their stories and interactions were breathtaking as well as inspiring. While I may not get to run off to Scotland, I can feel a bit of the experience through this book. If you would like an adventure, and a lesson in Scottish Reeling dance along the way, get ready to be swept away by Swept Off Her Feet. It was one of the most pleasurable reads I have had this year.

Once their interactions begin to progress in the story they suck the reader and you cannot put this book down. Unearthly brings us the story of Angels here on earth and what drives them. It is the story of a family who is moving to fulfill a purpose, a destiny that does not necessarily have an end in sight. The author creates an amazing new world, a new reality that will engross readers young and old. These pages were beautiful and amazing to read. I loves the flow of the story and the character's interactions with each other. The end of the book completes this part of the story while at the same time drawing us deeper into the series. Unearthly, was truly a magnificent story with compelling characters that was beautifully written

Bumped

I read Bumper and loved it. One of the things that I appreciated from the book as a reader was how the characters voice in the book identifies with how teens talk. Bumped brings us to a future dystopia where birth after 20 doesn't happen, and you can basically take out a loan on your daughter's uterus to buy the new car. Your school is a showground for your baby bump and no girl keeps her baby but sells it off to pop the next. This future world was quite a spectacle but what gripped me was our main character Melody. She embodies the language of her generation yet has the drive and mind that changes her view on the outcome of her present concept of reality and of how the ways things are and done. As her separated twin sister Harmony comes into her life and tries to bring her into a religious group, Melody tries to keep her image and standing in school even while she is getting older and is still has not been 'bumped'. With the help of her friends and family a rescue in store! Bumped takes us to a whole new teen dystopia where your genes and your eggs are your future and breeding brings in he bucks. Who will get bumped next?(

Hunt of the Unicorn

HoU is the story of a history of specifically named ladies and a debt of promises. HoU begins in the land of the Fabulous Beast. We come into a world that has been torn asunder when a rift in the fabric of the world, a portal left unfolded, let's in a diabolical hunter and a grand weaver. Here their intentions cross into a world filled with fantastical creatures and an agrarian society that recently has lived a simple midevil existence. Nothing will ever been the same again. A story develops of a weaver who wanted to change the rapid abuse of the world by the hands if the Hunter, the Leo, and his destruction of the fantasical beasts, and his tyrany as the King. A greatly removed ancestor's promise brings a unicorn into the modern age to bring home a young girl to the land of the Fantasical Beast. The unicorn is almost the last keeping the land alive and it comes to tell a young girl that she is the one who can change history, only she can keep a long ago promise to end the reign of the Leo, and keep a pure world for our great imagined creatures to live alongside humans in peace. With trees and tapestrys as gateways between the worlds and life threatening decisions, HoU has amazing characters and a thrilling plot that brigs a new voice out in the YA, that reads well for a variety of ages. I enjoyed the plot and the developments, and the backstory was intriguing and worked well blended into the present day plot that was happening.

Wicked Lovely 05 Darkest Mercy
by
Melissa Marr

The ending of a great series is always hard to read for me. There is the apprehension on staring it since you know that it is the last, combined with the longing you have held on see what happens to your characters in the first place as you have waited. Darkest Mercy is the final book in the Wicked Lovely series. In it's pages we come to massive story conclusions and lost characters, intertwined with found love and court changes. New characters are introduced, and old beloved characters are changed forever. There were jubilant times, and teary pages. Darkest Mercy was an amazing conclusion from Melissa Mar. At the last page the story ending felt completed and some characters are moving onto new paths, but it felt good to finish. The loose end weight was lifted from m shoulders and I could set the book down feeling good. If you enjoyed the Wicked Lovely series so far, you will love the finished story. Marr weaves an amazing story with enough love and tragedy to cut it with a knife, and yet the finished product still leaves you with a satisfied sigh. The characters interactions were all well played out and described. A great conclusion to an epic series.

Karen Mahoney brings is into the world of the Fey and of the alchemist in her 2011 debut novel, The Iron Witch. Mahoney is a great world building taking us through her character Donna Underwood, and the experiences and experimentations that happened to her while she was young. The accompanying man candy of a mortal and a half fey make for a great part of the story, and I love all of the characters dialog and interactions with each other. With an influx of books in the YA genre I loved this retelling of a classic tale of the "Armless Maiden" myth and how Mahoney wove the present day into the story so well. With the amazing qualities of this debut I cannot wait to read the next book in her series.

Iron Codex 01 Iron Thorn

Caitlin Kittredge has created a complex world of magic, machines, and science with the release of The Iron Thorn. There are layers of our world that are hidden behind the law of the land of Iron. The language of Machines has overtaken a history filled with magic and fey, except now it is coming to an end. The story revolves around the main character named Aoife (amazing name) and her family's history that is now changing the very fabric of the worlds. There is magic, and mystery, suspense, and romance for everyone in the book. I loved the descriptions of the great machines that imprison and drive the world of Iron and the complexities involved in the school of learning, as well as how the past was hidden from the populace. The book was fantastic to read and think about how a story can change a world, and how a group of people can destroy a past with those words and condemn people for not only remembering the past but also in their being a part of it. The Iron Thorn is a book you have got to read and experience.

Enclave

Enclave is an amazing debut release by author Ann Aguirre! Once I opened the first page I was sucked into the underground world of future American, and people it did not look pretty. If sewer life and mystery meat was my future in the dark with emaciated people I might have to succumb to breeding since with no coffee I am basically a walking cranky zombie normally. Our main character soon earns her name, Deuce, after her blood is splattered on an artifact which happens to be a playing card. She has trained all her youth and becomes a Huntress, a protector, a food provider for her community and earns a battered cubicle for her private space. Soon she is partnered with an outside that turns into a whole new adventure. Deuce's world expands and turn upside down and topside as this amazing story progresses and we begin to see the layers in this future landscape. People, Enclave was amazing to read. The laundry piled up and there was a day of takeout as I was absorbed into the pages and read on like a maniac. Ann makes these smooth transitions of moments into the book that you just cannot want to put it down. There is enough action and fighting to keep a fast pace, and a smooth layer of developing character relationship to give you the warm fuzzy feeling until the next jolt of action. I loved the characters and how they related and found out about the world. The world building was awesome. The back story was hinted at enough to make me beg for several more books because the author has something intriguing going on here in this dystopian and I did not have enough. I cannot wait for the release of Razorland 2! Thank you Ann for an amazing adventure of future peril. It was a sweet ride and now we need some more ;)

Where She Went

Gayle Foreman brings us the second book from here If I Stay series titled Where She Went. IIS was an amazing tearjerker of a read so I new somewhat of what to expect in WSW, but it took my breath away. WSW takes us three years after Mia's accident and it is through the narrative of Adam. In Where She Went we what happens after Adam has asked Mia to Stay, and how that choice affects everyone around them. Times are tough after the amazing takeoff of Adam's band Shooting Star when the main release of the album Collateral Damage just after Mia had been in the accident. From the lyrics we see the pain and loss that Adam experienced at the top of each chapter then we find that find that stardome was not the answer for Adam and that the loss of Mia's leaving was the loss of his sanity in a way and his heart. WSW is an amazing tale of love, loss, regeneration, anger, abandonment, and hope. One you open it it takes you on the inner journey of our characters choices and what happened when Mia left, and where Adam went from there and where he will go on to now. Get the tissues, there are some heartbreaking moments here and Gayle writes them so beautifully and smoothly that you cannot put it down. The one sentence on the back of the book sums up Where She Went quite well, "Told from Adam's point of view in the spare, lyrical prose that defined If I Stay, Where She Went explores the devastation of grief, the promise of new hope, and the flame of rekindled romance."

The Vespertine enters in the story in a 1889 Baltimore to the young Amelia van der Broek. She is an eager young lady not used to the strings of young city life, and the dance that is done to socialize. Instead of falling for the upper class boys, the boy of the Fourteenth catches her fancy. Enter in the dashing mysterious artists who takes her eye off the proper marriage males, and into the back streets and shadowed allies that haunt an early America. The Vespertine is a new historical novel that will set young hearts afire and bring about the feeling of a budding American city and all the different parts to the great city of Baltimore. There are many intriguing characters that cover the pages of this book, and the author's telling weaves your feelings into the story. I lost a night in these pages that now make me yearn for small calling cards, and a sense of secret adventure. The Vestpertine was a beautiful, haunting, and romantic novel that is winning the hearts of it's readers.

Cloaked

Cloaked was a great mash up of fairy tales. In fact it was fantastic to read. Cloaked is the story of a shoemaker, there were some brownies but mainly there was a girl; in fact there were two girls. Enter in Johnny. There comes a time when a 17 year old boy lusts after a pretty girl, but he misses the attraction his close friend feels for him, and goes after the hot foreign princess visiting the hotel. What Johnny doesn't know is that his shoemaker life is going to get pretty weird, and fantastical pretty quick. Alec Flinn intermingles a whole host of stories around this young male character. The tales being with the now turned to frog prince, an evil witch, talking swans, and a helpful rat. Johnny goes through the story righting wrongs, and falling in love for the real princess in his life while solving family troubles and finding new ones. Cloaked was a delightful read that will leave you laughing and feeling warm and squishy by the end alongside a lot of fairy tales that have not been revisited in awhile. An adaptation not to be missed.

Kelley Armstrong brings us into a new series with this first book, The Gathering. Maya is an adopted daughter with a missing past except for a strange paw print birthmark that has a past. Maya has a affinity for animals and creates her own haven for injured park creatures in her yard. Currently cougars are appearing all around her, which is concerning to her park ranger father. The story revolved around a secluded private town in Washington that is owned by a medical research facility that is crawling with mysterious investigations. This is a great opening into the series. I love Kelley Armstrong's characters and this book was great to read. The writing was smooth and fluid. I loves the dialog and the sense of place in the book and descriptions were great to feel in being a part of it. Once finished I cannot wait for the next book.

Dark Moon picks up where the previous book left off. As Trey's werewolf powers get strong and more prominent he is faced with trying so solve an a problem and retrieve items intermixed with a lot of bloody gore. His relationships are developing while also going stale and there are a lot of people/things out to get him. I enjoyed the atmosphere and the description of place in the book, and there was not a lack of action. There is a lot of mystery and suspense in the book and it was an engaging read.

Can You Survive the Zombie Apocalypse

I had so much fun with this book! There is never a night where I do not have some quippy remark about the upcoming zombie hordes. There are many people who snark about with me on this topic. But I tell you, this book has it all! Have you ever wondered how to survive in a restaurant during an attack? Want to make your own decisions during a panic? This book took me back to the teen days reading the Choose Your Own Adventure Series except add zombies to every page and do not drink while reading because spontaneous laughter may resume at any time. I would sit on the couch reading to others and having them pick the next part of the story, so wait it could have been like and Apocalyptic Zombie party and I missed out?!Wait turn to pg 46 and resume party on with appropriate attire and weapons right? Oh my gosh who could go wrong with great zombie plot turns like: "If you want to take shelter in the nearest building, an elementary school, turn to page 286." OR do you: " Take off up the street, hoping to put as much distance between you and these things as you can? Turn to page 253."

How to Woo a Reluctant Lady
by
Sabrina Jeffries

, February 01, 2011
The opening of the book introduces us to a young Minerva, love the name, and her traveling love of Giles. Another interesting thing about Minerva is that she writes lusty Gothic novels that drive her Granmother crazy, until she runs off with a rake and into a double life toss up. I love some historical romance in the cold days. There was much tea consumed in this reading. I enjoyed greatly reading A Hellion on Her Bed, The Hellions of Halstead Hall Book 2 so How to Woo fit right in with cozy reading. The dialog was great and fun to read and as it always is the description of period clothing is so great in the book. I loved the twists and turns in the plot, and the humor was written in fantastically. The Hellions series is a must for romance readers. Sabrina Jefferies brings her characters into life and depth and builds a great background into her expressive stories.

In the beginning you are swept away into a tide pf action, thick plot, and thick sexual tension. The flow of the book is so smooth the pages melt into your hands until the ending leaves you breathless and waiting for more. This was my first introduction into this series by Diana Francis. Here the world building is in great detail as we come upon a world o f black and white forces that are now proving to have a murk middle ground I was tossed and absorbed into the plot. The characters are amazing and I now want to know more about their story. I picked up Bitter Night part way into reading Crimson Wind because I wanted to know more. I definitely loved both books and not only is there a huge case of Cover Love on them I would also like to make them posters ;) this book was full of awesomesauce. The action and plot was so thick I ate the book up overnight (or really all night and into the morning on) so I was a happy reader now awaiting more.

Do you want a little snark in your read this week? Lily Parker is a quirky new heroine in the Dark Elite Series released by Chloe Neill. Chicago just got a little dirtier, and when Lily is investigating activities with other Adepts (magic using guild for the good)they come upon some strange creatures and some really green slim. This discovery will unravel a whole new host of problems for this set of characters as they are discovering more about their growing powers, and their growing attractions. So unless the Reapers hold them back, be prepared for an adventure, and a lot of fun dialog.

From the Debut author Courtney Moulton, comes the book Angelfire! I loved the characters and the story was original and utterly amazing. With so many great books coming out this year I think that Angelfire will keep staying a favorite because it was a great read! As the story progresses we see the main character Ellie adapt to these new changes she faces during high school, and we begin to see her accept her destiny. As if turning 17 was not hard enough Ellie is finding out that she has a historically hidden history of reaper arse kicking and a whole host of awesome moves her hot new guardian can help her in unlocking . I loved the character building, the relationship building, the hints of back plot that we hope to see in the nest book (because it rocked!). All round Angelfire was amazing. It was a new turn in the YA genre and it stands proudly!

The Secret History of Elizabeth Tudor, Vampire Slayer

This book was so much fun to read. I got into a obsession reading the Tudor series from Phillipa Gregory series and the HBO show the Tudors, so when ET Vampire Slayer was released I I knew I had to read it. I loved the imaginary character world building presented in this book by bring the vampire element into history. Could you imagine a show on this book, it would rock! The turn of Elizabeth into a slayer was just great, we see all these character developments into her growth as a woman, a Queen, a wife, a Slayer and they are just so well described and put together into a strong cohesive story that I was amazed. If felt in reading that this could be a believable element in history because the detail in the book was great to read. The time and place description as well as the added element of the supernatural was superb. If we added some supernatural into the history books then I bet teens these days would be interested in their history books ;) After reading through this story and seeing all the woven elements the author put into it with the historic detail and the added supernatural I cannot wait for more from her. It was spellbinding for sure!

I got my hands on a copy of the Earl from the Book Blogs Gallery, and once in I could not keep my hands off of it. I absolutely loved these characters! There interactions were so much fin reading, and the writing was so fluid and easy to read, even when my attention was turned elsewhere for a bit and I picked the book back up I was still ready to jump right back into the story. While Cat and Aidan are sorting through this diary of his father's and finding all of this mystery out, we find their relationship expanding. I loved all of the different characters and their abilities in this world magical entities. I really enjoyed Cat and her strong character, but I respect Aidan as he was coming to terms with his past and really finding himself. There was a wonderful blend in this book that was just amazing and I cannot wait for more from this author. If you need something to kick past this season winter darkness, pick up the Earl and warm yourself with some pages.

Geist is a story about some unliving entities surfacing in the world and the Order that is trying to keep them at bay. The characters are amazing. Sorcha is a kick arse Order Deacon who finishes the job, has the hots for a geistlord-exprince/killer super cat, and a lot of people who don't like her. There are some princes, some coldbedded exhusbands, some possessed people and some adventure. The plot was great and the dialogue was wonderful. All in all this book was such a pleasure to read that by it's ending I was like heck ya! But the next release is months away which turned into: this book was amazing! but now I have to wait :( But I recommend you pick up a copy and dive into this fantastical world of wonderful characters and a great plot.

OH my gosh, this book was hilarious and great. In a lighthearted style we read about a boy who realizes that the best way to deal with a skin condition and a fair complected is to become a vampire. To become a vampire you must: act like you do not car, be dark and brooding, rarely be seen eating, queasy seeing blood at school, and dislike the sunshine. With a whole host of vampire genre books out there this one rocked my socks because it was so great. Being a teen is hard enough and sometimes we try and do things to hang in there and just survive those years. This is a tale somewhat about that, with a lot of good fun in there also.

Lord of the Fading Lands is book one in the epic Tairen series by C L Wilson. This book was not only beautifully written, but its characters are amazing. While there are several repeated thoughts that go one, and really not a lot of time elapsed in this first book, there is something about it that has me hooked. I did not want to put it down, even though I had to a lot. The imagery and feeling behind a lot of scenes really captured me. I cannot wait for the next books because I am taken with this world. C L Wilson is an epic world builder with this series. We are getting a feel for all these lands connected to each other that keep apart from each other in so many ways. There feels to be a different feeling for each land also, that I cannot wait to get into more with the upcoming books.

Do you remember Mulan? Well here is someone with a new twist, it is Emmajin the granddaughter of Khubilai Khan. Yeah. We open up to beautifully written story that transfers you to the vast empire of Khubilai Khan. War is always happening, but it is a more peaceful time, a changing time. The vast conquests are still expanding, but so is the idea of bettering the people. Emmajin is a strong, athletic warrior of a girl who does not want the court life, but longs to be a soldier in the Khan's army. She practices with her prince half brothers and gains the attention of the Khan with her efforts. Now Emmajin is on a secret and special mission that will take her to dragons and to war. What comes after is where the pivotal part of the tale hits. The writing in this novel was so artistically done. I felt as if I could touch the grass in the vast open plains. See the marble palace, and fall in the heat of battle. There was not too much detail to as take away from the characters, but more than enough to becomes transfixed into this era of history. I loved the historical clarity and the references in time. I loved the mild romance and the thoughts the characters unveiled to us. Each section of the book held great depth and I was very pleased with this read. I recommend it whole heartedly to others and say to them: grab a cup of something warm, a chair and a blanket because you will not want to leave this one. It is a total finish with love, for me especially. Also on a note, the cover was beautiful.

JANE was a wonderful book taken from Jane Eyre by Charlotte Brontë. We replace a nineteen year old college student, and an aged Rockstar, and thus we are taken into this new rendition of a favorite past book of mine, Jane Eyer. I loved the writing in this book as I loved these new models of our old favorite characters. The dialog was great and their interactions with each other was perfect for the book. I loved how they took this old theme and brought it to life for a new era. I loved how these new characters had all these thoughts and view and how as the story progressed you see these underlying feeling exposed. I was so happy to read Jane. It really made my night the day I finished it. This book really moved me in its writing and its new breath of life in its characters. Thank you April Linder for recreating this timeless world for me into this great new light. I bet now my teens will want to read it

The Hundred Thousand Kingdoms is a new debut author release from NK Jemisin. The world building portrayed throughout this book is fantastical and the characters and how they relate to each other was such a breath of new life to the genre that I was totally absorbed in the book for an evening. This book is fantastical with a brand new host of characters that do not involves ghosts, angels, or vampires. We have a hierarchy if humans and their class issues and then we have a host of gods and godlings. There is just enough back story to love and not to much that you want to skip lengthy descriptions of the world. You get a taste of the different lives but are totally drawn into the main characters. If you want an epic fantasy/scifi read full of new life, pick to up. You will not be disappointed.
