Renowned educator, philosopher, and philosopher of Education, art as experience. Dover brings a concise overview to a book that is a must for any teacher, artist,or art teacher,or any just well rounded human being. I remember a lecture i was at regarding art education with Maxine Greene P.H.D. who quoted John dewey as saying"aesthetics are the opposite of anesthetic". this quote never left my mind or heart. Mr ron scott sippel.i give this and all John dewey orks 5 stars and add to any top ten list. beautiful thoughts provoking prose, well written they stick nicely to the mind.

Justin Cronin's" The Passage "is a Magnum Opus That Spans a Century -or more-during and and after a massive viral vampiric apocalypse. Erudite,chilling-unusally turning, twisting and changing plotsMemorable, lovable and despicable characters.Part one of a coming trilogy -get in on this Magnum Opus before you have to scramble to catch up. A rare book. A wonderfully terrifying experience. 5 stars

Carrion Comfort

Dan Simmons

This is a terrifying ,overwhelmingly well described story of telepathic, and telekinetic, monsters, who look like "normal people" and are bent towards wreaking havoc with regular people, by using their ability to compete in a yearly bet as to who can kill and destroy the most massively and horribly. It is story of a boy with a really bad memory he carries into adulthood from a WWII death-camp that has grown into powerful, righteous vengeance- ; to a southern aging Belle of The Ball ,who is evil incarnate -who holds a gathering of monsters who wager on how cruelly they can use a nauseatingly powerful ability. Dan Simmons ,who has written many novels of the supernatural, is at his most gripping page turning pace - weaving the infernal with wordsmith abilities that won this novel the Bram Stoker Award. It is a story of a great mutation and powerful ability, so wrongly directed, back at humanity, that it feels so real that it makes one question if there are any "accidents" in our world. The characters are all too believable. The circumstances and situations so pulse pounding that although one is scared out of their wits they "cannot stop reading." This book will take you deep into the night, it is a long tale that reads as speedily as a hungry battlefield. It is a book that one will never forget. It is a memorable favorite of those who find it . It is a powerfully evil tale -with one hopeful brave protagonist-, and reminiscent of apocalyptic works such as Stephen King's "The Stand" and Robert R. McCammon"s "Swan Song." This is one book that if you see a paperback grab it. If you find a hardcover , afterwards you will want to own it . A brand new take on "mind-control" and the darkest places in human imagination. Highly recommended -along with Dan Simmon's entire catalogue-, including the recent "Drood".

Stephen Kings N

I collected the individual comics of "N" , read the story in "Just After Sunset," and watched the digital story narrated on the Web. I also listened to the audio version of the story. Well ,basically it is a terrifying story of contagious obsession. Obvious, huh? I will not spoil it for readers because if you have not experienced it yet, in written word or visually in the comics -it is a must- for Stephen King die -hard fans and anyone who loves the horror / thriller genre. The collected comics of King's works, as hardcover books are beautiful, in general , however, this one should be the best . The art is amazingly surreal, the written word, is just enough to tell this bone -chilling memorable tale. Any H.P. Lovecraft fans of "The Cythulu Mythos" would be hard- pressed to find a better homage and continuation of that strange world of alien demonic forces. This is Stephen King painting on a smaller canvas, but the image-( although the strongly developed and believable characters are limited in number) -,created is of a dark compulsive universe where "Everything's Eventual". There is a powerful subtext of the addictive quality of the terrifying story told well and how the human mind copes (or does not) with forces vast and beyond its own comprehension. I personally cannot wait for this collected comic hardcover to add to my King library. It is truly mind blowing and viscerally frightening. Not a story you will ever forget. It is a story where art mimics life within the story itself and in one's mind as one reads it. Truly inventive, something only Mr. King could pull from the depths of his ever expanding multi-dimensional mind. This is a powerful work of psychological terror spreading without control and once you have read it you cannot un-own it. It is that great. Beambounder19 AKA E.Freemantle.
