Every year, the booksellers at Powell’s submit their Top Fives: their five favorite books that were released in 2023. Goblin Secrets

This was a really charming book and I recommend that parents buy it for their kids who love fantasy. This book was set in the colorful world of Zombay, a city where no one was allowed to act or "wear masks" by decree of the mayor. However, there are some that find a way around these rules, the goblins. This book is more than an adventure story though, it's about finding a place to call home and protecting the people you care about, regardless of social status. I think it would make a GREAT Studio Ghibli film too! It has everything a Studio Ghibili film needs: likable, young characters, a colorful setting, interesting and imaginative magic and a great plot conflict! This book is also notable because it is a national book award finalist. I hope others enjoy this YA Fantasy.

Venom in Her Veins Frealms

This was a really really fun book! Very exciting. I couldn't wait to see what happened next to the main character and I gobbled the book up in two days. I really really hope Pratt writes a sequel. I feel like he left it off on a note that set it up for one. If you like fantasy novels with lots of adventure, this book is for you!

This was a great book! Probably his best so far. Really creative and exciting. I really never got bored reading this book; I just kept wanting to see what would happen next. The pacing and tone of the story are really well done. It is a lot different from Pratt's Marla Mason books, you know, not humorous but I think fans of the Mason series will like this book too.

Size 12 & Ready to Rock A Heather Wells Mystery
by
Meg Cabot

I really like the Heather Wells books. I like the tone that Meg Cabot write in and usually they are pretty funny. This book really wasn't for me though. I really like Heather, Cooper and her dorm friends, but I had a hard time caring about Tania Trace and Jordon, who are the main focus of this story. It's too bad! If she wrote another Heather Wells book, though, I would read it. I did like the bit at the end where Cooper and Heather discuss their engagement and having children or not having them; it left the book on a happy note, which is what I like when I read Meg Cabot books.
