The Red Tent
by
Anita Diamant
Nadya
, January 18, 2010
This powerfully written novel gives voice to the women's perspective at an important junction in human history, the shift from Earth & season based spirituality, honoring the great mother Innana, to a male dominant, 'one God' perspective. I love Diamant's attention to detail, from the removal of the household gods (Teraphim) from Laban's altar before Jacob, 'his wives & his sons, his brindled & spotted flocks' depart, to Dinah & her mother's meeting with 'the grandmother' (Abraham's second wife) Rebecca, who dwells in the sacred grove, & keeps the old ways. Diamant's portrayal of this group of strong & diverse women gives voice to forgotten stories. & offers another view into this time of transition. Highly recommended!

Coconut Oil Miracle 4th Edition
by
Bruce Fife

, April 02, 2009
This lovely book makes you want to rush out & buy coconut oil, milk & flour! Anti-viral, fungal & bacterial, the lauric acid (MCT) in the oil kills fat coated viruses inc. Hep. C, herpes, staph & strep, HIV, & influenza. Nourising to the body & brain, no wonder the long lived Polynesians who followed a Traditional diet called it "tree of life." A great read!

Widows Broom

Chris Van Allsburg

, January 15, 2009
This delightful tale of a quiet friendship between a lonely widow & a witch's broom that's lost most of its abilities, threatened by her unsavory neighbors' fears & suspicion, will enchant young & old. A good read about simple magic! Who doesn't want a broom like this?

Just David
by
Eleanor H. Porter

One of my mom's favorite books, 'Just David' is the story of a boy who is orphaned as he & his father are returning to civilization, after spending several years in a remote mountain community. David, taught to tune himself as well as his violin, so he will sound harmonious notes in the 'orchestra of life' is taken in by a pragmatic farmer & his wife. A story of redemption & finding balance between the mundane & his pure spirit & talent; Just David remains one of my favorite reads!

This delightful tale explores communication - thru the eyes, ears & body of a child raised by wild dolphins! I empathise with Mila as she tries to understand human speak, reading emotions & thoughts behind the words, & soothes another feral child. I was enchanted!

Back Before Dark
by
Sharon Arms Doucet
Nadya
, September 07, 2008
I savoured this well written first novel, rich in language & images. As a child of the 50s, I also grew up with concerns about our use & misuse of radioactive materials, & am impressed by the way Doucet weaves a story of secrets, both family & society's. She spotlights current military use of depleted Uranium, while telling a beautiful tale of growth & forgiveness. Highly recommended!

Shroud Of Shadow Natil 03
by
Gael Baudino
Nadya
, November 02, 2006
This is one of my favorite fantasy series! Beginning in the burning times (middle ages), & continuing in the present, where elvin blood is 'awakening' in mortals in Colorado! The elvin harper, Natil, who lives the creed of helping & healing is the constant thread in this story of courage & imortality. Strands of Starlight, Maze of Moonlight, Shroud of Shadow & Strands of Sunlight are the 4 novels, complimented by a group of stories, Spires of Spirit. A must read if you love elves & harps!
