This coloring book has some fabulous pictures. I like the variety and the hours of time my 14 year old daughter spends relaxing while coloring.

Downsizing Your Home with Style Living Well in a Smaller Space
by
Lauri Ward
Lorna

This book is a keeper. I love how the author gives examples of furniture that you can take from your normal or large home into a small apartment to function in a different way or with multiple uses. It has great diagrams and is well organized.

Wonderland Creek Wonderland Creek
by
Lynn N Austin
Lorna

Lynn Austen is a favorite author of mine and this book was very interesting. It tells the story of a young librarian who rides on horse to the backwoods of the Appalachian Mountains delivering stories and reading to people as part of a Works Progress Administration effort. The main character is sort of silly at first and gets more and more admirable. I hadn't heard the story before and it was well told. I appreciate how thought provoking it was. My 12 year old daughter said it was her favorite book.

The Original Adventures of Hank the Cowdog
by
John R. Erickson
Lorna

This series is great to read aloud to grade school kids especially boys. It is cute and silly. The only drawback is that Hank treats his sidekick with some disdain. You can use that as a lesson about how would you feel if someone treated you that way... All in all a lot of fun. My son loved them from age 7 to 11.

American Horticultural Society Encyclopedia Of Garden Plants
by
Christopher Brickell

This is still one of my 5 faves in gardening books (as a Master Gardener I have plenty). I love the help this book gives to identify plants and the seasonal interest by color is a great arrangement. It is also fabulously cheap now as a used book.

Once Upon a Flock My Life with Some Soulful Chickens
by
Lauren Scheuer
Lorna
, May 07, 2013
My 12 year old daughter totally loved this! (I think she must have read it after bedtime when I wasn't looking because of how soon she finished.) This book is totally fun because of the pictures, illustrations and observations of the author. If you are crazy about chickens or want to explore with your kids, this is a fabulous book for you. If you want to find out about what feed, illnesses, breeds and how to take care of chickens, you will want to look elsewhere. I recommend this creative, cute, fun book to all chicken loving kids and kids at heart.

Backyard Foraging 65 Familiar Plants You Didnt Know You Could Eat
by
Ellen Zachos
Lorna
, April 14, 2013
Who knew that my beautyberry could be eaten by me and not just the goldfinches. This book is great because it explains when, how and what to harvest of common landscape plants. The author chooses plants because they taste good. I appreciate the details and wish that she maybe included a few more plants. Her advice about where to harvest and chemical contamination is very good. Great book!

Meghan Method The Step By Step Guide to Decorating Your Home in Your Style
by
Meghan Carter
Lorna
, May 18, 2012
I thought this was a great book. It helped me clarify how I wanted my room to feel and the elements that support that, the items I need for function, and how to select color. This is a fun book and very easy to actually read. If you will be decorating, make sure you see this book first.

Take the U out of Clutter: The Last Clutter Book You'll Ever Need
by
Mark Brunetz and Carmen Renee Berry
Lorna
, March 17, 2012
This is the best book at helping to confront the real reasons a person keeps stuff. The authors help you deal with your personal stories that cause you to hang onto things that do not cause you joy. I was surprised and impressed at how good this is, and how encouraging. Read it if you have any hoarding, cluttering tendencies or you might want to read it just to help yourself prioritize what you keep of your past, what you get rid of, and what you change.

Time of Ghosts
by
David Coomler and Hok-Pang Tang
Lorna
, April 11, 2011
A Time of Ghosts is a fascinating look at the war of Chinese culture during the beginnings of communism. Hok-Pang Tang's personal narrative is surprising and very well written. I found the glimpse into Tang's beliefs and experiences interesting and compelling. It is good to look at your own beliefs and their causes. This book is a good catalyst for that because it is very different from my upbringing in the United States. We certainly do experience a great degree of freedom that is often taken for granted until you get a wake-up call like A Time of Ghosts. I highly recommend this book!!!
