The Thief Lord By: Cornelia Funke Cornelia Funke’s The Thief Lord tells the story of an extraordinary and truly mind-boggling adventure that a groups of young runaways undertake. The story takes place in the city of Venice and Cornelia Funke makes you feel as if you live there. “The air smelled of fish, autumn flowers, and dried mushrooms” is one of many details painted by Funke. The gang of runaway kids use their cunning minds and escape danger day after day as people search for them and they barely have enough money for food let alone shelter. The story all feels realistic until you reach the last few chapters. Funke twists the story into a commendable surprise that will make your brain spin until everything smoothly falls into place. This book teaches you that in many cases you cannot possibly get what you want but with a little magic, anything can happen. This book is well organized, very creative, and easily read. I would definitely recommend this book to anyone. For me, this would have to be a hands down favorite!
