Five Book Friday: In Memoriam
(0 comment)
Every year, the booksellers at Powell’s submit their Top Fives: their five favorite books that were released in 2023. It’s a list that, when put together, shows just how varied and interesting the book tastes of Powell’s booksellers are. The story is slow to start and somewhat disorientating. We are thrown immediately into a tragedy, but we are unsure whose or what. The story is spoon fed from varying perspectives. Some more engaging and devastating than others. Eventually the reader comes to realize that the first story shared wasn't the only tragedy, there were others along the way that contributed to the misery of this "summer-away" town's permanent residents. Super engrossing and a very fast read.

Reads like a documentary film. The writing is very suspenseful, while giving an in-depth history of the region. Doesn't over-explain technical terms, leaves that up to the reader to explore on their own if curious. More than one time my hair stood on end while reading this book. High recommendations.
