I like the movie Wizard of Oz. I loved the play Wicked. But the book is something entirely different. It's so much more. The wicked side of Wicked is very enticing. Wicked is a completely different realm than the lollipop kids or Miss Dorothy. It's a tale of how the Wicked Witch became so wicked. I engulfed this book and if you think the Wizard of Oz could have used a lot more spice then this is the tale you have been waiting for.

It's a story. A well told story that makes just about everyone cry. Art of Racing in the Rain came highly recommended by several people so I thought why not? After the first couple chapters I begged them to tell me why they recommended this book. Just finish they would say. They were right. It is a very good book. Just read it. Though you don't have to be a dog lover to love this book if you are a pet owner, you will never look at your pet the same again.

This is not a book I would have picked up on the scores of shelves at Powell's. The Cellist of Sarajevo was lent to my finance' who never read it, and having just finished a book with nothing to read I picked it up. I am glad I did. This was a well written little novel and a very easy read. I truly was heartfelt for the characters and felt connected to their lives. I would recommend this book to anyone looking for an easy read, one which also makes you think. You can't help but feel compassion for others and have a greater appreciation for your own life.

If you like David Sedaris books, ignore my 2 stars. I love This American Life, so figured I would love David Sedaris. I learned from this book, which I never actually finished, that I'm not a big David Sedaris fan. I like more meat, and less negativity in a book. Though some of his stories were rather funny, most just put me in a pissy mood. Guess I just don't get that kind of humor.

Let me start by saying I'm not a writer or a huge reader. I like to read a chapter or two before bed at night. Some books I never get through, few books I find hard to put down. This book was somewhere in between. I enjoyed the charters, which is a must. I enjoyed the realness this book offered. Did it make me laugh out loud or cry? No. And though I will not run to grab another Krauss novel, I did finish The History of Love and didn't feel I wasted my time. Best put, it was a fairly easy, it's a sit on the porch on a summer day read.
