Chalk Girl
by
Carol OConnell

I really didn't want to get involved with a new mystery/thriller series and didn't realize Chalk Girl by Carol Oconnell was the most recent addition to that genre. Chalk Girl stands alone as a unique and engaging novel. The characterization of a youth with Williams Syndrome was a realistic representation of the challenges one faces when diagnosed with that label. Being introduced to Kathleen Mallory through her connection to the young girl resonated with me on many levels: professional, emotional, and personal. The story was complex and rich and I couldn't put it down. And yes, I am now hooked on this creative series by OConnell.

Unique plot draws reader in immediately. The drama unfolds in an articulate manner. No loose ends are left but surprising twists are the route to getting there.

House Rules
by
Jodi Picoult

House Rules is a great read for people who enjoy human dramas but I especially liked its relevance to folks w/Asperger's syndrome. It's often hard for people w/Asperger's to comprehend abstract concepts let alone generalize and apply those concepts to themselves. But this book is so clear in its depictions of the challenges the main character w/Asperger's faces that it transcends the "out there" story and brings it home to be enjoyed and discussed by people with and without Asperger's Syndrome. A keeper and a great gift book.
