I am a fan of Criminal Minds (a tv procedural based around the FBI's Behavioral Analysis Unit). I am a fan of shows like Alphas, Heroes, Xmen, Supernatural - shows were people or creature have supernatural powers for one reason or another. This book (and the ones that follow it) combine those tropes. You find the BAU up against people with Abilities. It is a great twist on both styles of show and written as only prose writers can write a procedural. If you know someone who loves procedurals on tv and want to get them reading, this is a great gateway series. If you enjoy urban fantasy, this is a great series. It is well written, has a great cast of characters that you come to love quickly, and has stories you want to know the outcome of.

A collection of horror short stories by horror movie professionals and based on the film industry? Yes please. There's a little for everyone - comedy, gore, otherworldly, and very worldly. It was even nominated for a Bram Stoker award, so I'm not the only one who thought it was completely worth the read.

This book is one of the best-written works of fiction I've read in a long time. Not only does it have a compelling tale set in a well crafted and dark world, but the structure is well formed and interesting. Although it is clearly a part of the fantasy genre, this book could hold its own in the literature section as well.
